The Mark of a Champion

Everyone loves to be a champion. But not everyone knows how to be one.
In
every endeavor we all say we'll be THE NUMBER 1. But when asked how, we
say,
"I'll use my lucky charm!"

Most achievers will answer, "Luck has very little to do with it." Being
Number 1 takes much more than luck. It takes inspiration, persistence,
and
faith. Luck is a "nice-to-have."

A professional adheres to four P's. We will share with you these four
P's
and if you have what it takes, first congratulate yourself for being a
champion.

1. PRE-PLAN.
Set goals. Devise strategies. Set your course of action, with specific
tasks
and corresponding deadlines. The only way you can reach what for you is
the
Number 1 position is to have a clear picture of that top slot and
whatever
path leads to it.

Your plans must be realistic, though -- achievable. You can't plan on
being
the country's representative to the swimming Olympics if you're 40
pounds
overweight and the elimination is just a month away -- unless you
starve,
but that wouldn't be a good idea. So, plan smart. Put your goals in
writing
to add commitment. Some planning takes a little time. It's all right. A
good
plan is the first step up the ladder to Number 1.

2. PRACTICE.
Now, with a good scheme in hand, your next step is to work on it. How
Practice, practice, practice. No one becomes a champion swimmer
overnight.
Not even ten overnights! It takes months of serious training, dedicated
practice.

And what did Tom Hopkins say "Practice doesn't make perfect. Perfect
practice makes perfect." In other words, there's no sense practicing
something that doesn't work or that doesn't lead you to success. If your
swing is self-taught, and your batting average is so-so, you need
professional help. Then, using the professional, correct, and proven
techniques, you practice, practice, practice, until it becomes second
nature.

3. PERFECT.
This is something that goes beyond practice. This P is shooting for
perfection. Some call it fine-tuning. After you've practiced long and
hard
to learn, understand, and rationalize the techniques and skills... after
you've done it a hundred, a thousand times... after you've acquired
"muscle
memory" and you can actually do it with your eyes closed... it's then
time to cross the line to perfection. Do not stop practicing until the
motion
becomes flawless. Until you can do it flawlessly, every time.

Imagine the magicians who get away with card tricks using
slight-of-hand.
They start learning a trick in slow motion, and practice until they can
perform it faster and smoother. And when they can do it flawlessly with
their eyes closed, every time, they move on to perfecting the move until
they become confident enough to...

4. PERFORM.
This is the test. The moment that will tell you that you have succeeded.
Everything you planned, practiced, and perfected, will find fulfillment
during the performance. Show your mastery - your skill. Let other people
marvel at your specialty. Make them appreciate your effort and
excellence in
the task you have chosen.

You step up to the plate, you come up the stage, or you face your
client,
and with full confidence and mastery of skill, you give it all you've
got.
Just as you've planned it, exactly as you've visualized it, you smoothly
move from start to finish, and you deliver it flawlessly. The mark of a
winner and true champion.

Many professionals push on to improve on their performance. Every
performance becomes an opportunity to practice, and become even better -
and
be the take-off point for bigger tasks and loftier goals. A professional
never ceases to enrich and refine himself. A professional always sees
himself as a winner and a champion. And a winner is a winner and will
continue to win because he's a champion who doesn't quit.

Walk Your Own Walk

You have to walk your own walk in this life. And as you are traveling
down
your road, don't look down at your feet. Keep your head up and your eyes
focused on what you know to be true. Be neither a follower nor a leader.
You
are not forsaken; you are forgiven, and when shadows exist simply find
higher ground to tread upon. If you come across an obstacle or an
impasse,
pay mind to it but don't focus on it for too long or your feet may sink
into
the quicksand that surrounds it. Find the courage to surmount it and
continue on your journey.

Offer your hand to those you come across who are stuck in their own
personal
sand traps, but do not point them in the direction you feel they must
go,
that has to be their decision. Only imply to them that they are never
alone,
and they will eventually find their way. When you get to where you are
going
and you look back, it is your own footprints you are going to want to
see,
not someone else's. The importance of your trials and tribulations is a
gift
to be beholden, for that is how you will learn whom you truly are.

What Do You Think

Do you think that all the world is against you Then it is. Do you really
think that you can succeed against all odds Then you can. Do you think
that
today will be tedious and boring Then it will be. Do you think that you
can
make a difference Then you will.

Whatever you think, is true for you. Whatever you truly believe, is the
reality which you've imposed on yourself. What do you think And why do
you
think it Do your thoughts serve you, or do they hinder you

If you are to do anything, you must first think that you can do it.
Thinking
does not make it happen. That takes action. Thinking, however, makes it
possible. Think carefully. Whatever you truly think, whether positive or
negative, you'll find a way to make it happen.

Focus On Your Blessings

Joan and Natty were two young mothers who lived across the street from
each
other. From their living room windows, each woman was able to observe
the
activities of the other woman's family.

One day, Joan confessed that she'd been watching what went on in Natty's
front garden and that she envied her.

I don't know what you mean, Natty said with puzzled look on her face.

Well, I often see your husband out in the front mowing your lawn, and I
wish
my husband would do the same thing, Joan said. Your garden is beautiful!

Natty laughed and then made her confession. I have been doing the same
thing, Joan, she said. I watch your husband in your front garden - and I
have envied you! Joan shook her head with disbelief. What on earth do
you
mean She asked.

Natty replied, I see your husband playing ball with your toddler so
nicely.
How I wish Keith, my husband, would do the same thing! He never wants
our
boys in the way when he mows.

Be honest Joan. Would you rather have your husband play with your son
than
have a well-manicured lawn

I had not thought of that before, but your right Natty. I may have tall
grass, but Eric, my husband is right about playing with little Johnny,
Joan
concluded.

Very often we are blind to our own blessings that are so obvious to
others.
Let us cultivate the habit of concentrating on our several blessings
rather
than brooding over what we perceive as curses.

4 Steps to Enjoying Every Moment

All too often people take life, and all of the great things that it
offers,
for granted. People realize how much something means to them only after
it
is taken away. There is a reason for this; it is difficult to appreciate
things in life because it is difficult to picture yourself without them.

An example will help to explain this point more clearly. Imagine sitting
at
a table nearly 100 feet long. On this table are hundreds of different
foods.
Main courses, deserts, drinks, and more cover every inch of the table.
You
are all alone, and all that the table offers is for you.

Now try and not take this food for granted. Try to appreciate it like it
will be gone tomorrow. It isn't easy. It is hard to not take this food
for
granted when there is so much in front of you.

This example can be transferred to many things in life. One may see that
same point in life itself. People say live life to the fullest, and to
appreciate every day you have. This is difficult for the majority of
people
because, just the like the food, there are so many days left. When you
know
you'll be around for 40 more years, it is hard to think about today
being
your last day.

Don't lose hope, there is an answer. It's called the Step Back. This
quick
system will help you to appreciate your life, and all that is offers.
Moments filled with happiness and excitement will no longer be
unappreciated
and taken for granted.

1. REALIZE YOU'RE IN THE MOMENT
The first step is to realize that you are in the middle of something
good.
It could be a beautiful day on your family vacation, or a perfect
afternoon
with your children. You are the judge of what moments you'd like to
appreciate.

2. TAKE A STEP BACK
This is the main part of the system. Once you realize you are
experiencing a
moment you'd like to have last forever, stop yourself for a moment and
take
a Step Back.

Take yourself away from the situation. Take a short walk, a quick break,
or
simply close your eyes.

Once you are removed from the situation, think about it as if it
happened in
the past.

Picture how happy you were, the details of the scene, and the others
around
you. Feel the emotions you felt, see and hear the faces and sounds.
Remember
how much you enjoyed the time, and how much you'd like to enjoy it
again.

3. MAKE YOUR REENTRY
Once you feel the happiness of the moment, think about this; it's no
longer
in the past, it's right now! You just thought about how great you felt
in
that past moment, and now you can live it in the present.

You just appreciated the current moment by looking back on the
situation.
Once you are in the middle of the moment again, remember...

4. ENJOY YOURSELF
This will be a moment that, like all others, will eventually pass. With
this
in mind, really let it sink in. Take a look around, and realize you are
in
the middle of something great.

Taking a Step Back every now and then will help you appreciate life. No
longer will you be one who takes life for granted. You will make happy
moments happier, and you will also help to make them last forever.

Success has no address,
No landmark,
No calling card,
But the path is steep,
And some will take the elevator,
But i will take the stairs,
Some will get there faster,
But i will get there stronger,
And adversity will be my
Traveling companion,
Because when i get the there,
I can turn to adversity and say,
So long,
And heave the bag of taunts
and insults i gathered
along the way, and scatter them
to the birds,
I will miss them,
But feel lighter,
Yes,
That will be the day,
When i stand at
a large bay window,
And unclench my fist,
For there will be no more
odds to conquer,
Not even the mind,

I like odds, they help me get even

Faces
-Anangha

Everyday while traveling to and fro
I see so many faces,
At definite time, definite intervals,
Definite corners, definite places!!

So many faces I see-
That over -made up face,
that one, continuously tensed up
And that one, without a trace...

of anxiety or fear!!
That face always in a hurry,
And that cool and slow face
Without any worry!

That over-confident 'egoistic' face
And that face with a guilty look,
That bespectacled face whose life
Must be only in the pages of the book!

Innocent faces, quarreling and playing
With loads of books, water bags, tiffins and carrying,
Tensions only when
The exams are nearing...

That old face full of nostalgia
And those twinkling eyes full of dreams...
Stern faces, soft faces,
Faces full of powders and creams..

Each face has a different 'outlook'
Each one has a different 'aim',
But despite the variation
Their destination is the same!!

Each must be having the same intentions
Of not getting lost in this crowd, this mess,
And of reaching such a level where it won't remain
Just a Mere face!!!

Looking Back At You

The good you find in others, is in you too.
The faults you find in others, are your faults as well.
After all, to recognize something you must know it.
The possibilities you see in others, are possible for you as well.

The beauty you see around you, is your beauty.
The world around you is a reflection, a mirror
showing you the person you are.

To change your world, you must change yourself.
To blame and complain will only make matters worse.

Whatever you care about, is your responsibility.
What you see in others, shows you yourself.
See the best in others, and you will be your best.

Give to others, and you give to yourself.
Appreciate beauty, and you will be beautiful.
Admire creativity, and you will be creative.
Love, and you will be loved.

Seek to understand, and you will be understood.
Listen, and your voice will be heard.
Show your best face to the mirror, and you'll be happy
with the face looking back at you.

One Step

Foolish people with all their other thoughts, have this one too: They
are
always getting ready to live, but never living.

Your success will start when you begin to pursue it. To reach your goal
or
to attain success, you don't need to know all of the answers in advance.
You
just need to have a clear idea of what your goal is.

Don't procrastinate when faced with difficult problems. Break your
problems
into parts, and handle one part at a time.

Develop tendencies toward taking action. You can make something happen
right
now. Divide your big plan into small steps and take that first step
right
away.

Everyone who ever got where they are had to begin where they were. Your
big
opportunity is where you are right now.

A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. Take it.

I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud
- William Wordsworth

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced, but they
Out-did the sparkling leaves in glee;
A poet could not be but gay,
In such a jocund company!
I gazed-and gazed-but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

Rebuild Our Earth

In a world that's only filled with anger and pain,
And the world's humans own just guilt and shame.
In an atmosphere where everyone's filled with fear,
In a dog-eat-dog world with not a sign of God near.

This world of our seems like it's already self-destructing,
The wise men may have answers but no one's trusting.
We've ruined the deserts and the plains, the oceans and lakes,
Then we turn and point our fingers and won't admit our mistakes.

In a world created by the Lord, a masterpiece for all of time,
Look at what we've done to Him, doesn't anybody mind?
So many wars and battles going on for no reason but for greed,
Just so the politicians can fill their Ego's full of imaginary needs.

We're living in a troubled land, our home's foundation is giving in,
In haste we built what would not last, the damage has begun within.
I suppose being human is what's causing our downfall to come,
Not trying to better this land once perfect, as God had begun.

Is it too late, or perhaps there's a few brave souls that will try,
To save this precious land, this home of yours and mine.
Can we all join together if it's the only way we can all survive,
Or will we still divide our camps and see who dies, who stays alive.

Will brother meet his brother, will we finally learn the golden rule,
Will we offer each other comfort or stand stubborn like the mule.
Only we can save this world, God gave it to us as His gift,
Will we rebuild and save our land or let it crumble bit by bit?

Things Aren't Always What They Seem

Two traveling angels stopped to spend the night in the home of a wealthy
family. The family was rude and refused to let the angels stay in the
mansion's guest room. Instead the angels were given a small space in the
cold basement. As they made their bed on the hard floor, the older angel
saw
a hole in the wall and repaired it. When the younger angel asked why,
the
older angel replied,

Things aren't always what they seem.

The next night the pair came to rest at the house of a very poor, but
very
hospitable farmer and his wife. After sharing what little food they had
the
couple let the angels sleep in their bed where they could have a good
night's rest.

When the sun came up the next morning the angels found the farmer and
his
wife in tears.

Their only cow, whose milk had been their sole income, lay dead in the
field. The younger angel
was infuriated and asked the older angel how could you have let this
happen

The first man had everything, yet you helped him. she accused. The
second
family had little but was willing to share everything, and you let the
cow
die.

Things aren't always what they seem, the older angel replied.

When we stayed in the basement of the mansion, I noticed there was gold
stored in that hole in the wall

Since the owner was so obsessed with greed and unwilling to share his
good
fortune, I sealed the wall so he wouldn't find it. He continued, Then
last
night as we slept in the farmers bed, the
angel of death came for his wife. I gave him the cow instead. Things
aren't
always what they seem.

Sometimes that is exactly what happens when things don't turn out the
way
they should. If you have faith, you just need to trust that every
outcome is
always to your advantage.

You might not know it until some time later...

Focus For Life

Whatever you dwell upon in your mind, you give power to. So of course it
makes sense to focus on what you want rather than what you don't want.
Yet
there are many ways in which the things you don't want can sneak into
your
thinking.

Worry and doubt focus your thinking on what you don't want. Rather than
worrying about the bad things that might happen, direct your actions
toward
making positive things happen.

Complaining can also get your mind sidetracked into thinking about what
you
don't want. What do you complain about The things you don't like. Rather
than complaining, take action. Action moves you toward what you do want.

Anger is one more way to get your thinking negatively directed. Rather
than
getting angry about what you don't like, use that energy to give you
determination for what you want to achieve.

Keep your mind positively focused on the good things that life can
offer.
Those things will grow stronger and more abundant in your world.

Dont Laugh At Me

I'm the man on every corner,
who has to live out on the street
I wouldn't be out here
begging if I had enough to eat

And don't think that I don't notice
that our eyes never meet
I lost my wife and little boy
when someone crossed that yellow line

The day they laid them in the ground
was the day I lost my mind
And right now I'm down to holding
this little cardboard sign

Don't laugh at me
Don't call me names
Don't get your pleasure from my pain
In God's eyes, we're all the same
Someday we'll all have perfect wings
Don't laugh at me

I'm fat, I'm thin
I'm short, I'm tall
I'm deaf, I'm blind
Hey, aren't we all?

Don't laugh at me
Don't call me names
Don't get your pleasure from my pain
In God's eyes, we're all the same
Someday we'll all have perfect wings
Don't laugh at me

Life Is Opportunity

Life is opportunity!
Every day,
All seem it gray,
Can stimulate new thought.

Chance is not what rules the world
There's purpose everywhere,
It's just for us to recognise
The pearl that's waiting there.

The opportunity for us,
To learn and serve and grow.
The harder that the 'problem' seems
The higher we can go.

What is ours will come to us,
So fear becomes inept.
Just find the gift in everything
And we'll become adept.

Scars of Love

Some years ago on a hot summer day in south Florida a little boy decided
to
go for a swim in the old swimming hole behind his house.

In a hurry to dive into the cool water, he ran out the back door,
leaving
behind shoes, socks, and shirt as he went. He flew into the water, not
realizing that as he swam toward the middle of the lake, an alligator
was
swimming toward the shore.

His mother, in the house, was looking out the window and saw the two as
they
got closer and closer together. In utter fear, she ran toward the water,
yelling to her son as loudly as she could. Hearing her voice, the little
boy
became alarmed and made a U-turn to swim to his mother.

It was too late. Just as he reached her, the alligator reached him. From
the
dock, the mother grabbed her little boy by the arms just as the
alligator
snatched his legs. That began an incredible tug-of-war between the two.

The alligator was much stronger than the mother, but the mother was much
too
passionate to let go.

A farmer happened to drive by, heard her screams, raced from his truck,
took
aim and shot the alligator. Remarkably, after weeks and weeks in the
hospital, the little boy survived.

His legs were extremely scarred by the vicious attack of the animal.
And, on
his arms, were deep scratches where his mother's fingernails dug into
his
flesh in her effort to hang on to the son she loved.

The newspaper reporter who interviewed the boy after the trauma, asked
if he
would show him his scars. The boy lifted his pant legs; and then, with
obvious pride, he said to the reporter, "But look at my arms. I have
great
scars on my arms, too. I have them because my mom wouldn't let go."

You and I can identify with that little boy. We have scars, too.

No, not from an alligator, or anything quite so dramatic. But, the scars
of
a painful past. Some of those scars are unsightly and have caused us
deep
regret. But, some wounds, my friend, are because God has refused to let
go.
In the midst of your struggle, He's been there holding on to you.

The Scripture teaches that God loves you. But sometimes we foolishly
wade
into dangerous situations. The swimming hole of life is filled with
peril -
and we forget that the enemy is waiting to attack. That's when the
tug-o-war
begins - and if you have the scars of His love on your arms, be very,
very
grateful. He did not - and will not - let you go.

Once in a lifetime

Who brings out the best in you
Who becomes the meaning of your life

You eat, breathe, talk
Sing, dance, laugh
Dream, smile and live
All because of him

Your very life and existence
Your reason for being here
Becomes clear
That is when you know
That he is the one for you

And without him
Days are just but days
And life is but a word

So when you find that very one
Hold him close
And never let him go
You'll find yourself living
Dancing in the colours of the rainbow

The Poet Never Heard
-Tracey Lee Graves

Away in the darkness
No one about
Alone I sit, pondering wonder-

My life's mistaken
For perfect and kind
How misleading my disguise

Step into my mind plunge into my soul
See how my perfect isn't perfect or kind
It's shattered and torn
Weary and worn

Words try to express what's hiding inside
The evil, the hurt, the pain, and the cries
But no one sees this poets plea
Meaningless, my words then flee-

No one to see, not even me
Alone I sit, alone to ponder
Away in the darkness
No one to wonder

A Lesson in Life

Everything happens for a reason. Nothing happens by chance or by means
of
good or bad luck. Illness, injury, love, lost moments of true greatness
and
sheer stupidity all occur to test the limits of your soul. Without these

small tests, if they be events, illnesses or relationships, life would
be
like a smoothly paved, straight, flat road to nowhere.

If someone hurts you, betrays you , or breaks you heart, forgive them.
For
they have helped you learn about trust and the importance of being
cautious
to who you open your heart to.

If someone loves you, love them back unconditionally, not only because
they
love you, but because they are teaching you to love and opening your
heart
and eyes to things you would have never seen or felt without them.

Make every day count. Appreciate every moment and take from it
everything
that you possibly can, for you may never be able to experience it again.

Talk to people you have never talked to before, and actually listen.
Hold
your head up because you have every right to. Tell yourself you are a
great
individual and believe in yourself, for if you don't believe in
yourself, no
one else will believe in you either.

You can make of your life anything you wish. Create your own life and
then
go out and live it.

A Million Moments

The secret to life is living it ... one day at a time

Our lives are made up of a million moments, spent in a million different

ways. Some are spent searching for love, peace and harmony. Others are
spent
surviving day to day. But there is no greater moment than when we find
that
life, with all its joys and sorrows, is meant to be lived one day at a
time.

It's in this knowledge that we discover the most wonderful truth of all.

Whether we live in a forty-room mansion, surrounded by servants and
wealth,
or find it a struggle to manage the rent month to month, we have it
within
our power to be fully satisfied and live a life with true meaning.

One day at a time ... we have that ability, through cherishing each
moment
and rejoicing in each dream. We can experience each day anew, and with
this
fresh start we have what it takes to make all of our dreams come true.
Each
day is new, and living one day at a time enables us to truly enjoy life
and
live it to the fullest.

Listen or Wait

A young and successful executive was traveling down a neighborhood
street,
going a bit too fast in his new Jaguar. He was watching for kids running
out
from between parked cars and slowed down when he thought he saw
something.

As his car passed, no children appeared. Instead, a brick smashed into
the
Jag's side door! He slammed on the brakes and reversed back to the spot
from
where the brick had been thrown. He jumped out of the car, grabbed the
kid
who threw the brick and pushed him against a parked car shouting. "What
was
that all about? Just what the heck are you doing?"

Building a head of steam he went on. "That's a new car and that brick
you
threw is going to cost a lot of money!!"

"Please, mister, please. I'm sorry, I didn't know what else to do!!"
pleaded
the youngster. "I threw the brick because no one else would stop..."
tears
were dripping down the boy's chin as he pointed around the parked car.
"It's
my brother," he said. "He rolled off the curb and fell out of his
wheelchair
and I can't lift him up." Sobbing, the boy asked the executive, "Would
you
please help me get him back into his wheelchair? He's hurt and he's too
heavy for me."

Moved beyond words, the driver tried to swallow the rapidly swelling
lump in
his throat. He lifted the young man back into the wheelchair and took
out
his handkerchief and wiped the scrapes and cuts, checking to see that
everything was going to be okay. "Thank you and May God bless you," the
grateful child said to him. The man then watched the little boy push his

brother down the sidewalk toward their home.

It was a long walk back to his Jaguar ... a long, slow walk. He never
did
repair the side door. He kept the dent to remind him not to go through
life
so fast that someone has to throw a brick at you to get your attention.

God whispers in your soul and speaks to your heart. Sometimes when you
don't
have time to listen, He has to throw a "brick" at you. It's your choice:

Listen to the whisper, or wait for the brick...
