"To be or not to be..."

To love or not to love, that is the question:

Whether ‘tis more gracious to endure

The storms and torrents of unavoidable pain

Or to choke your emotions against all sentiments

And by conflicting bar responsiveness. To benumb – to dampen,

No more, and by damping to say we numb

The heart-ache and the thousand inherent shocks

That yearning is heir to: ‘tis a bestowal

Fervently to be wish’d. To dampen, to numb;

To benumb, perchance to harden – ay, there’s the dilemma;

For in that when one hardens one’s heart what troubles may arise,

For when we have shuffled off this mortal coil,

The questions we have to withstand – and what we reply is

What unbolts or barricades the pearly gates to divine abode.

For who would haul over the peaks and trenches their sentiments,

Those society has scorned, family has wounded,

Those beloveds have wrecked, friends have squandered,

Those brethren have wasted; the world has rebuked

What spirit and strength must man require

To carry the agonies that his nearest and dearest

Have gifted him? Who would heave these burdens,

With a heavy heart and a massed soul?

But the dread of something after death,

The unknown interrogations, that all come to face

That the Almighty and his angels greet us with,

That very dread gives us ironic strength to bear

And compel us to set our hearts on yet another.

The promise of pure love does make cowards of us all,

And thus we aspire to set our hearts right

And lighten our souls with pledges and warrants,

And search for another worthy of our love,

Our trust, our admirations, our cherishment,

And our prized treasures. Soft you now,

A fair young man approaches! Perchance this time,

Divine will is by my side.
