Worth Reading

Joie De Vivre

What?? The title sounds Greek/Latin/French to you? Oh well, it’s French! It
means ‘Enjoyment of Living’. Can I hear a univocal voice that says -- We all
know how to enjoy our lives, what’s there to talk about??

Before our thought process becomes tangential, let me try & make myself
clear, to try & do some frequency matching to get us both on the same page!

See, my intention is to present the whole concept in a different
perspective. How many of us would risk appearing a bit crazy, foolish,
having gone a bit bonkers to people who are listening to us, when we try to
drive in our viewpoint? Do we have the ability to laugh @ ourselves, @ the
sheepish situations we sometimes find ourselves in, look @ the lighter side
of any given situation also & not just concentrate on the problem in hand?

Still not getting my point? Well, let me try & give some examples.

Many of us might’ve faced the situation of appearing slightly naïve on the
topic being discussed @ a meeting as it may not be in our area of expertise
and therefore not our forte.

• How many of us have had the courage to speak up and ask the fundamental
doubts we would have in our mind, instead of reserving our Qs to a
one-to-one session with the presenter at the end, after everyone has
dispersed?

• Or would we fall into the “sleepy” mode and wait for the session to be
over, as the topic is totally new to us & therefore uninteresting?

• Or would we give a willing ear to the discussion going on, chip in with
your ‘entry level set of Qs’, participate, gauge if the topic is curious
enough to explore, and if it is find out avenues to learn more???

Talking about meetings, how many of us, have faced the situation of having
our own opinion about a topic being discussed, but were too sacred to raise
it, as it might make us appear a fool?? Only to realize that during the
course of the meeting somebody else stole the exact words we had in mind!!!

Let’s talk on a lighter vein. You are invited to an informal party where you
participate playing a game in which you end up having to dance! Now you know
that can never get the funda of moving with the beat, synchronizing your
body movements with the music as you always seem to have two left feet!

• Would you still go ahead and have a blast, irrespective of the type of
social gathering @ the party?

• Would you vouch not to make your presence felt in similar such parties, so
you’d be spared of the “embarrassment”?

• Or would you take the chance to appear ‘foolish’ by dancing away to glory,
enjoy the experience and realize that maybe it’ll be worthwhile to learn the
basics of a few dance steps and find the time in your work schedule to
enroll for a few simple lessons, so that you can enjoy a repeat incident
better???

Well, I am not going to tell you which is the ‘optimal’ choice that fits
into this topic of discussion. Am just throwing the choices open as it is
purely a personal option to make, syncing with what is it that YOU really
want to enjoy life, what makes YOU euphoric, simply because happiness is a
state of YOUR mind, a sensation, an emotion which is very personal.

In a nutshell, I think that, if you really feel like doing something, if
your mind tells you that you’ll really be missing something if you don’t do
it, then go ahead and do it! Yes, you may appear a bit of a fool in the eyes
of others, but to enjoy the spirit of being alive & vibrant, to drink in the
enjoyment of living, the true joie de vivre, its okay to appear goosey!

Well, that’s it. Just giving you points to ponder on weather we have it in
us the will to explore new unknown avenues, opportunities that life opens
for us. Maybe it’s worth trying to have an open mind to imbibe into our
character interesting things that we observe and come across in our daily
lives. We all know the most enjoyable days of our lives were when we were
students; it was pure unadulterated ‘joie de vivre’. Thinking in these
lines, is it possible for us to be the evergreen student of life’s
teachings?

Thought to ponder well, maybe sometimes its ‘Wise to be Foolish’???

Enjoy
