Be Thankful

Be thankful that you don't already have everything you desire.
If you did, what would there be to look forward to?
Be thankful when you don't know something,
for it gives you the opportunity to learn.

Be thankful for the difficult times.
During those times you grow.
Be thankful for your limitations,
because they give you opportunities for improvement.
Be thankful for each new challenge,
because it will build your strength and character.

Be thankful for your mistakes. They will teach
you valuable lessons.
Be thankful when you're tired and weary,
because it means you've made a difference.

It's easy to be thankful for the good things.
A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who
are also thankful for the setbacks.
Gratitude can turn a negative into a positive.
Find a way to be thankful for your troubles,
and they can become your blessings.

WORTH READING 28 July 2005

Being Twenty-Something

They call it the "Quarter-life Crisis." It is when you stop going along
with
the crowd and start realizing that there are many things about yourself
that
you didn't know and may not like.

You start feeling insecure and wonder where you will be in a year or
two,but
then get scared because you barely know where you are now. You start
realizing that people are selfish and that, maybe, those friends that
you
thought you were so close to aren't exactly the greatest people you have
ever met, and the people you have lost touch with are some of the most
important ones.

What you don't recognize is that they are realizing that too, and aren't
really cold, catty, mean or insincere but that they are as confused as
you.

You look at your job... and it is not even close to what you thought you
would be doing, or maybe you are looking for a job and realizing that
you
are going to have to start at the bottom and that scares you.

Your opinions have gotten stronger. You see what others are doing and
find
yourself judging more than usual because suddenly you realize that you
have
certain boundaries in your life and are constantly adding things to your
list of what is acceptable and what isn't.

One minute, you are insecure and then the next, secure. You laugh and
cry
with the greatest force of your life.
You feel alone and scared and confused. Suddenly, change is the enemy
and
you try to cling on to the past with dear life, but soon realize that
the
past is drifting further and further away, and there is nothing to do
but
stay where you are or move forward.

You get your heart broken and wonder how someone you loved could do such
damage to you. Or you lay in bed and wonder why you can't meet anyone
decent
enough that you want to get to know better.

Or maybe you love someone but love someone else too and cannot figure
out
why you are doing this because you know that you aren't a bad person.
One-night-stands and random hook-ups start to look cheap. Getting wasted
and
acting like an idiot starts to look pathetic.

You go through the same emotions and questions over and over, and talk
with
your friends about the same topics because you cannot seem to make a
decision.

You worry about loans, money, the future and making a life for
yourself...
and while winning the race would be great, right now you'd just like to
be a
contender! What you may not realize is that everyone reading this
relates to
it.

We are in our best of times and our worst of times, trying as hard as we
can
to figure this whole thing out.

WORTH READING 27 July 2005

Killing Stress

Rule 1:

Develop a positive attitude. Stop thinking of yourself as stupid or good
for
nothing. The more you have a negative self esteem the more are your
chances
to be effected by stress related problems.

Think of yourself as somebody who is capable and can do what he wants
to.
Think of yourself as a person who can manage his finances well, get over
health problems through mind power, systematically manage time when you
want
to, solve family problems by talking them out, solve work problems by
being
genuine and passionate at work, sort out house hold problems by taking
them
as they come and manage social life by not giving it unnecessary
importance.

Try to convert problems into challenges. It's no use looking at problems
as
problems. Everyone has to face them. Those who convert them into
challenges
are the ones who come out with flying colours.

Upon being asked on how he felt on "failing" 9999 times in his attempt
to
perfect an electric bulb, Thomas Edison replied that he had "not failed"
but
learnt 9999 ways of how not to make an electric bulb - a positive
attitude
that conclusively led to one of most useful scientific creations ever.
Expect frustrations and failures at times, that's why they call it
"work".

Rule 2:

Put your mind at work. On the social front if you have friends call them
in
manageable groups to your house and treat them to home made cakes and
cookies instead of planning flashy parties with unmanageable numbers.

It's the quality which counts and not the jazz. On the home front try to
be
prepared and systematic so that in case of a power cut you don't need to
shout around for the candle.

Or just understand the importance of living a clean life instead of
becoming
a cleanliness freak. Clean is one thing and disinfected and hermetically
sealed and tested is another.

On the job learn to delegate work and avoid unhealthy competition.

Learn to pace your activities so that you can achieve your targets. On
the
family front explain to your spouse the importance of staying together
and
bringing up your children together or for that matter explain to your
parents the importance of maintaining a little distance at times.

Learn to take out time wasters from your day and schedule things in
order to
avoid procrastination and bad time management. Take the right health
insurance policies and go for regular by annual check-ups in order to
avoid
health related emergencies and to be prepared for the rainy day.

Learn to invest your money well (and for heavens sake don't borrow from
your
mother in law). Don't be over ambitious and end up buying every thing on
instalments. Credit cards and zero interest loans (and other such
schemes)
are lovely slaves but bad masters.

Rule 3:

Start living a healthy life. Have the right diet and exercise. Forget
about
that third mug of coffee everyday. Don't use work, social life or any
emotional problems as an excuse for becoming an alcoholic.

Smoking is no more happening and no use trying to watch that late night
movie on the cable if you have got to get up at 6.30 next morning.

Exercising is a must.

Anil Ambani describes it as one of the most important aspects of
success. He
feels you should look as good as your company and vice versa.

Some of the Indian ways like Yoga etc help to manage stress better than
anything else. The right kind of breathing techniques can help you
manage
tense times better.

Rule 4:

Know how to relax. Don't attach undue importance to everything. Remember
the
80:20 principle - 80 per cent of the results come from 20 per cent of
the
efforts.

At times its a great idea to forget the work in the office, leave it
pending
and going for your child's painting competition.

When is the last time you ditched your office and took your children for
that animation film or took your spouse shopping? Do it. Learn to say
"no"
to things, which are less important. Educate people on the importance of
leaving a message on the answering machine and forget about rushing
madly to
pick up the phone every time it rings.

Rule 5:

Spend time with nature. Visit the local park for a morning jog. Make
regular
trips to the countryside with family and friends.

Decorate your room with plants and try to have a nice garden at home. A
nice
weekend trip to a nearby hill station or beach can perk up your
productivity
for weeks to come. Learn to enjoy time with nature instead of your
computer
and office walls.

Visualisation

Your thoughts have a direct influence on the way you feel and behave. If you
tend to dwell on sad or negative thoughts, you most likely are not a very
happy person. Likewise, if you think that your job is enough to give you a
headache, you probably will come home with throbbing temples each day. This
is just another clear example of the power the mind exerts over the body.

Your imagination can be a powerful tool to help you combat stress,
tension, and anxiety. You can use visualisation to harness the energy of
your imagination, and it does not take long-probably just a few weeks-to
master the technique. Try to visualise two or three times a day. Most people
find it easiest to do in bed in the morning and at night before falling
asleep, though with practice you'll be able to visualise whenever and
wherever the need arises. To begin visualisation, sit or he down in a
comfortable position and close your eyes. Scan your body for any muscle
tension and relax the areas that need it. Once you feel relaxed, begin to
visualise a scene, object, or place that is soothing and pleasing to you.
Imagine every aspect of the scene, involving all of your senses. For
example, if you like to visualise a waterfall on a mountain, imagine first
what this looks like: the rushing water, the stream flowing from it, the
size and thickness of the trees all around.

Visualisation involves an image that you associate with tension which you
can replace with an image for relaxation. For example, you might visualise
tension as a taut rope, the sound of thunder, the colour red, pitch
darkness, persistent hammering, or blinding white light. These images of
tension can soften and fade into images of relaxation.

Promise Yourself

Promise yourself to be so strong that nothing can
disturb your peace of mind.

To talk health, happiness, and prosperity to
every person you meet.

To make all your friends feel like there is
something in them.

To look at the sunny side of everything and make your
optimism come true.

To think only of the best, to work only for the best,
and expect only the best.

To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others
as you are about your own.

To forget the mistakes of the past and press on the
greater achievements of the future.

To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give
every living person you meet a smile.

To give so much time to the improvement of yourself
that you have no time to criticize others.

To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, and too
strong for fear, and to happy to permit the
presence of trouble.

Forbidden Seed

It was a seed,
On the second day of the
Third week of the
First month of this year...
Time flew, and the seed began to grow
Although nobody saw it
The root went deep,
Within my warm blood...
I tried to hinder, the growth of the
Forbidden seed...

But, I was a failure
Now it has become an enormous tree,
Spreading the branches
Out of me...
It's a heavy burden to bear
I search for words,
To smooth my pain, that harbor
Within me...

I am not going to plunder,
You from anyone....
But, Do I have to say,
The "Story of the seed"
I am in a state of uncertainty,
Whether to put it out or hold it back...?
On the third day of the
Fourth week of the,
Eleventh month of the year,

Why don't you understand,
What I mean...!!

WORTH READING 20 July 2005

Spirit

There were two men both whom decided to get a horse. One man
found a red Rhone with much spirit. The other chose one more
docile. They would go riding together every day. It so
happened on the route they would take around the countryside,
there was a ditch about eight or nine feet wide, after a time
it was apparent that the Rhone's spirit could not be shaken
and he gave everything he had in all he did. When coming up
to this gap in the trail he hurled it the first time. Because
of the spirit in him he was quick to respond and jumped it
with no problem. Yet the more docile horse would balk every
time he came to the edge. He wasn't sure of the distance; he
would stand on the edge trembling with indecision and doubt
because the distance to him looked too great. Then one day
after awhile, coming up to the ditch and watching his companion
take it with ease, something happened within him, a knowing was
born that he could too. So with agility and ease he gracefully
bounded over the barrier.

Life is much like the two horses. When we as people come up
against trials or situations we just don't feel like we can
make the distance or that it just is too big and we don't know
if we'll make it. So we balk standing on the edge trembling.
It's not until we depend upon the spirit within. Then we are
able to make it with ease. Until we quit looking at the obstacle
or trial through our eyes, they will always seem too big for us.
But there is a spirit within us that can judge the distance to
the other side and will give us the strength to make it through
it.

As long as we let it.

It all comes to a choice whether we look for the spirit within
or just stand on the edge and balk. We will always have a choice.

WORTH READING 19 July 2005

Carry On!!
By Robert W.

It's easy to fight when everything's right,
And you're mad with the thrill and the glory;
It's easy to cheer when victory's near,
And wallow in fields that are gory.
It's a different song when everything's wrong.
When you're feeling infernally mortal;
When it's ten against one, and hope there is none,
Buck up, little soldier, and chortle:

Carry on! Carry on!
There isn't much punch in your blow.
You're glaring and staring and hitting out blind;
You're muddy and bloody, but never mind.
Carry on! Carry on!
You haven't the ghost of a show.
It's looking like death, but while you've a breath,
Carry on, my son! Carry on!

And so in the strife of the battle of life
It's easy to fight when you're winning;
It's easy to slave, and starve and be brave,
When the dawn of success is beginning.
But the man who can meet despair and defeat
With a cheer, there's a man of God's choosing;
The man who can fight to Heaven's own height
Is the man who can fight when he's losing.

Carry on! Carry on!
Things never were looming so black.
But show that you haven't a cowardly streak,
And though you're unlucky you never are weak.
Carry on! Carry on!
Brace up for another attack.
It's looking like hell, but - you never can tell;
Carry on, old man! Carry on!

There are some who drift out in the deserts of doubt,
And some who in brutishness wallow;
There are others, I know, who in piety go
Because of a Heaven to follow.
But to labor with zest, and to give of your best,
For the sweetness and joy of the giving;
To help folks along with a hand and a song;
Why, there's the real sunshine of living.

Carry on! Carry on!
Fight the good fight and true;
Believe in you mission, greet life with a cheer;
There's big work to do, and that's why you are here.
Carry on! Carry on!
Let the world be the better for you;
And at last when you die, let this be your cry:
Carry on, my soul! Carry on!

Do You Feel There is No Hope

In your times of deep despair,
Do you feel there is no hope?
As the darkness closes in on you,
Do you feel you cannot cope?

As you struggle on through every trial,
Do you say "When will it end"?
As you cry yourself to sleep at night,
Do you wish you had a friend?

When your body's racked with aches and pains,
Do you feel you are alone?
When you think about the future,
Do you fear the great unknown?

There is someone who really cares,
And He hears your every cry.
His arms are reaching out to you,
And on Him you can rely.

When things close in around you,
He sees your fear and doubt -
He wants to hold you in His arms,
And He will never cast you out.

As you stumble through the darkness,
He will be your guiding light.
He wants to wipe away your tears,
For you are precious in His sight.

Reach out right now to God,
And let Him take complete control -
He'll take that heavy burden,
And He'll touch and make you whole.

He's reaching out His arms to you,
And He wants to be your friend.
Let Him take you in His loving arms,
For His love will never end.

A Creed to Live By

Don't undermine your worth by comparing yourself with others,
It is because we are different that each of us is special.

Don't set your goals by what other people deem important,
Only you know what is best for you.

Don't take for granted the things closest to your heart
Cling to that as you would your life, for without them life is
meaningless.

Don't let your life slip through your fingers by living in the past or
the
future.
By living your life one day at a time, you live all the days of your
life.

Don't give up when you still have something to give
Nothing is really over ... until the moment you stop trying.

Don't be afraid to admit that you are less than perfect,
It is the fragile thread that binds us to each other.

Don't be afraid to encounter risks,
It is by taking chances that we learn how to be brave.

Don't shut love out of your life by saying it's impossible to find.

The quickest way to receive love is to give love.
The fastest way to lose love is to hold on too tightly,
And the best way to keep love is to give it wings.

Don't dismiss your Dreams. To be without dreams is to be without hope.
To be without hope is to be without purpose.

Don't run through life so fast that you forget where you've been,
But also know where you're going.

Life is not a race, but a journey to be savored every step of the way.

The Rules for Being Human
=========================

1. You will receive a body. You may like it or hate it, but it will be
yours
for the entire period.

2. You will learn lessons. You are enrolled in an informal school called
Life. Each day in this
school, you will have the opportunity to learn lessons. You may like the
lessons or think them irrelevant and stupid.

3. There are no mistakes, only lessons. Growth is a process of trial and
error. Experimentation. The "failed" experiments are as much a part of
the
process as the experiment that ultimately "works".

4. A lesson is repeated until learned. A lesson will be presented to you
in
various forms until you have learned it. You can then go on to the next
lesson.

5. Learning lessons does not end. There is no part of life that does not
contain its lessons. If you are alive, there are lessons to be learned.

6. "There" is no better than "here." When your "there" has become a
"here,"
you will simply obtain another "there" that will again look better than
"here."

7. Others are merely mirrors of you. You cannot love or hate something
about
another person unless it reflects something you either love or hate
about
yourself.

8. What you make of your life is up to you. You have all the tools and
resources you need. What you do with them is up to you. The choice is
yours.

9. Your answers lie inside you. The answers to Life's questions lie
inside
you. All you need to do is look, listen and trust.

10. You will forget all this.

The Man In the Glass

When you get what you want in your struggle for self
And the world makes you king for a day,
Just go to the mirror and look at yourself
And see what that man has to say.

For it isn't your father or mother or wife
Whose judgment upon you must pass.
The fellow whose verdict counts most in your life
Is the one staring back from the glass.

You may be like Jack Horner and chisel a plum
And think you're a wonderful guy.
But the man in the glass says you're only a bum
If you can't look him straight in the eye.

He's the fellow to please - never mind all the rest,
For he's with you clear to the end.
And you've passed your most dangerous, difficult test
If the man in the glass is your friend.

You may fool the whole world down the pathway of years
And get pats on the back as you pass.
But your final reward will be heartache and tears
If you've cheated the man in the glass.

Art of Negotiation

The ability to negotiate is one of the most valuable skills you can
bring to
any job. Whether you're after a pay rise, time off, a new job, getting
someone to back off, more help or more recognition, the ability to
negotiate
will give you a much better chance of success.

Negotiation isn't just about getting your own way or giving in. In fact,
those are the things that happen when people fail to negotiate. If you
won't
or can't negotiate then either you, or the people around you, are likely
to
end up feeling bitter and resentful. If you're the boss, you'll have an
unhappy staff. If you're the junior, you'll feel downtrodden and used.

Negotiation is about both sides reaching a good outcome, or at least one
they feel they can live with and have contributed to. It will almost
certainly involve compromise on both sides.

The seven-step negotiation plan:

1. Set out to reach a win-win situation. Both sides should leave the
negotiation feeling they've come away with something and that they're
satisfied.

2. Always begin by saying something positive and appreciative to the
person
you're negotiating with. For instance, 'I've noticed how hard you've
been
working,' or 'You really did a good job on that report'. It will
increase
the goodwill on both sides.

3. If the other person is angry or hostile, then refuse to get drawn
into it
or to fight. Keep smiling and being pleasant and sooner or later they'll
calm down.

4. Get clear about your bottom line. Decide, in advance, what really
matters
to you and what doesn't. In other words, where you'll compromise and
where
you won't. Then stick to it.

5. Give yourself room to manoeuvre. Make sure you have something to
offer
the other person, as well as something you want.

6. Listen. And keep listening. It's vital to really understand what the
other person is saying and their point of view. To listen shows respect
and
good intentions, and will make the other person feel valued.

7. Keep your options open. If you don't get what you want then resist
the
impulse to insult the other person or storm out. End the negotiation
politely, and with a smile. That way you can always try again later.

Of course not everyone is willing to negotiate. But you can use these
tools
even when you're the only one negotiating. The ability to negotiate will
help in virtually any work situation and will often allow you to
sidestep
conflict.

I Shall Learn On My Journey

I am capable. I am worthwhile.
I am beautiful. I am lovable.
I shall accept both my strengths
And my weaknesses for they are mine.

I shall never again believe the "lie"
That if I make a mistake,
I am a mistake.
My mistakes are the learning tools
That I shall encounter on my life journey.

When I learn from my mistakes,
I give them meaning
When I give my mistakes meaning,
I can begin to forgive myself,
I can begin to heal.

I shall not use my mistakes as excuses
To give up on me...
My mistakes are not me.

I shall seek the wisdom to nurture
My heart, mind, body, soul
So that I may feel more centred

Providing an energy reserve that allows
Me to climb the mountains in my own life

Providing an energy reserve that allows
Me to love and support others
Who are climbing a different mountain.

Providing an energy reserve that allows
Time for friends, play
And the celebration of life.

I shall allow myself to feel capable
So that I may seek excellence.

I shall allow myself to feel sadness
So that joy may return.

I shall allow myself to feel joy
So that I may be revitalized.

I shall allow myself to feel afraid
So that I may find courage.

I shall allow myself to feel alone
So that I may know me.

I shall allow myself to feel beautiful
So that I may feel free.

I shall allow myself to feel lovable
So that the loving may seek me.

I shall allow myself to feel pain
So that I may heal.

I shall allow myself to feel worthy
So that I may fulfill my purpose.

When I am centered,
I see the perfection in the world,
Myself and others.

When I find the world to be imperfect,
I will take responsibility
For painting it that way.

I will look into the heart of a rose,
Or the eyes of a newborn baby
And again know perfection.

I take responsibility
For creating my own life story
Through the choices I have made;
To blame others is to give away
My personal power.

Who will I allow to write
The next chapter of my life?

I shall seek the courage to believe
In the God or Higher Power
Who will laugh with me in the sunlight
Or cry with me in the darkness.

I shall make a small difference on this planet
Through the work I do.
When I leave I will have done my share.

I shall live, love, laugh,
And learn on my journey.

BE PATIENT

A man came out of his home to admire his new truck.

To his puzzlement, his three-year-old son was happily hammering dents
into
the shiny paint of the truck.

The man ran to his son, knocked him away, hammered the little boy's
hands
into pulp as punishment.

When the father calmed down, he rushed his son to the hospital. Although
the
doctor tried desperately to save the crushed bones, he finally had to
amputate the fingers from both the boy's hands.

When the boy woke up from the surgery & saw his bandaged stubs, he
innocently said, " Daddy, I'm sorry about your truck." Then he asked,
"but
when are my fingers going to grow back?"

Think about this story the next time someone steps on your feet or u
wish
to take revenge. Think first before u lose your patience with someone u
love. Trucks can be repaired. Broken bones & hurt feelings often can't.

Too often we fail to recognize the difference between the person and the
performance. We forget that forgiveness is greater than revenge.

People make mistakes. We are allowed to make mistakes. But the actions
we
take while in a rage will haunt us forever.

Pause and ponder. Think before you act. Be patient. Forgive & forget.
Love
one and all.

WORTH READING 4 Jul 2005

Strength and Courage

It takes strength to be certain,
It takes courage to have doubts.

It takes strength to fit in,
It takes courage to stand out.

It takes strength to share a friend's pain,
It takes courage to feel your own pain.

It takes strength to hide your own pain,
It takes courage to show it and deal with it.

It takes strength to stand guard,
It takes courage to let down your guard.

It takes strength to conquer,
It takes courage to surrender.

It takes strength to endure abuse,
It takes courage to stop it.

It takes strength to stand alone,
It takes courage to lean on a friend.

It takes strength to love,
It takes courage to beloved.

It takes strength to survive,
It takes courage to live.
