WORTH READING 1 Dec 2005

If....
by Rudyard Kilpling

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you.
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat these two impostors just the same;

If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;

If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

Top 10 Qualities of Excellence

1. Natural Talent

Know Your Brilliance!
An uncut diamond has a wealth of unrealized possibility and brilliance. The
beauty inherent in the diamond beckons us to develop its potential.
Likewise, we are at our best when we develop our natural talent. Know your
brilliance and learn to become it every day.

2. Invest in your success.

Life rewards those who are invested in their success. If you're ambivalent
about what you really want, you won't get what's most important. Let what
ever it is you're striving for mean something to you! Don't stay stuck if
you're not happy or making progress. Invest in your success so you're
completely passionate and motivated towards realizing your dream. Believe in
your dream and you'll be invested in the creation of your success.

3. Integrity

When you have integrity, your word means something. If people can't depend
on your word, integrity's lacking. If your actions aren't aligned with your
words, a disconnect occurs this disconnect then compromises your
integrity. Integrity is the quality of being complete and undivided
living from "what's right." Live life so that you are always in a state of
integrity.

4. Passion

Passion is that which deeply moves us. It's the fire from within and that
which motivates us. Passion deeply stirs us and compels us into action.
Passion gives us the ability to be touched, moved and inspired. Passion is
at the core of excellence tap into yours and let it guide your
vision!

5. High Standards

Excellence implies striving for quality. Standards of excellence are those
that are flawless and impeccable. Do you complete work? Do you surround
yourself with people who nourish your spirit and intellect? Do you address
discrepancies or concerns on the spot? Good isn't enough; we need to exceed
expectations and continually raise the bar for excellence. In this way,
quality is continually generated.

6. Creativity and Innovation

Creativity and innovation require openness and questioning. The belief that
anything's possible paves the way for creative thinking. *Outside of the
box* thinking produces innovation, and what company doesn't want to be at
the forefront of innovation? Creativity and innovation require a boldness to
play and discover... to be comfortable enough to admit that one doesn't know
the answers. It's in the openness to not knowing the answers that allow
creativity and innovation to be born.

7. Self Awareness

Self-awareness, particularly about the supports and structures that bring
out our best, is key. Lacking self-awareness is like stumbling in the dark -
one randomly bumps into what one is looking for. Contrast this to knowing
exactly the supports and structures that support you. With self-awareness,
one is able to get oneself *into the zone* with precision and accuracy. Pay
attention and observe yourself to enhance your self-awareness skills.

8. Commitment

Commitment implies a willingness and a *stick-to-it-ness.* If one is
committed, one's support is uncompromising and unending. One is willing to
do anything in support of the commitment. Commitment drives us and anchors
us during challenging times. Commitment enables us to maintain a high degree
of perseverance. Commitment opens the door to self-mastery and excellence.

9. Showing Up

It doesn't matter HOW we show up, what matters is THAT we show up. Day after
day, step after step. Don't let temporary obstacles keep you from showing up
on a day to day basis. Pace yourself like an athlete and learn to develop
new habits by incorporating the behavior on a day to day to day basis. Show
up no matter what, and you'll gain stability and forward momentum as you
move your vision forward.

10. Contribution

Looking back, what do you want the memories of your life to be? Excellence
isn't solely about success, measured by how much money or notoriety we gain.
Success is definitely not excellence if we've stomped on people en route to
our goals!

Excellence is about contributing our best to the world while evoking others
to do the same. It's about understanding our place and making our mark in
the world, as we attempt to make it a better place.

Excellence is about contribution and honouring others as we move forward
towards our vision.

Excellence lies in the hearts of all who evoke it in others by mentoring,
supporting, exemplifying and giving back

The Road Not Taken
- by Robert Frost

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveller, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth.

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same.

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less travelled by,
And that has made all the difference.

My Prayer

Your thumb is nearest you. So begin your prayer by praying for those
closest to you They are the easiest to remember.

The next finger is the pointing finger. Pray for those who teach,
instruct
& heal.

The next finger is the tallest finger. It reminds us of our leaders.
These
people shape our nation & guide public opinion.

The fourth finger is our ring finger. Surprising to many is the fact
that
this is our weakest finger; as any piano teacher will testify.

And lastly comes our little finger; the smallest finger of all which is
where we should place overselves in relation to God and others.

By the time you have prayed for the other four groups, your own needs
will
be put into proper perspective and you will be able to pray for yourself
more effectively.

Lessons on Life

There was a man who had four sons. He wanted his sons to learn not to
judge
things too quickly. So he sent them each on a quest, in turn, to go and
look
at a pear tree that was a great distance away.

The first son went in the winter, the second in the spring, the third in
summer, and the youngest son in the fall.

When they had all gone and come back, he called them together to
describe
what they had seen.
The first son said that the tree was ugly, bent, and twisted. The second
son
said no it was covered with green buds and full of promise.

The third son disagreed; he said it was laden with blossoms that smelled
so
sweet and looked so beautiful, it was the most graceful thing he had
ever
seen.

The last son disagreed with all of them; he said it was ripe and
drooping
with fruit, full of life and fulfillment.
The man then explained to his sons that they were all right, because
they
had each seen but only one season in the tree's life.

He told them that you cannot judge a tree, or a person, by only one
season,
and that the essence of who they are and the pleasure, joy, and love
that
come from that life can only be measured at the end, when all the
seasons
are up.

If you give up when it's winter, you will miss the promise of your
spring,
the beauty of your summer, fulfillment of your fall.

Moral:

Don't let the pain of one season destroy the joy of all the rest. Don't
judge life by one difficult season. Persevere through the difficult
patches
and better times are sure to come some time or later.

"WHY"

Why things in life are always contradictory;
Why we breathe feelings that are Imaginary.

Why everyone is blissful with something;
N I'm so bare on owning everything.

Why eternally the same, love stays;
But, the time for love passes away?

Why someone gives us a moment;
to cherish for lifetime.
And, someone can't spare a moment for us;
In entire lifetime.

Eventually, when u want to listen;
What my heart longed to say..
Why my feelings for u, are fading away;
Why my wits, refuse to remember those memorable days.

Why to its origin a river never returns,
Only after stumbling, my mind learns.

Why am I so content on this way?
That I always wished, never to exist anyway..

Why together we have no destiny;
When being alone, we crave for affinity.

Why in solitude only;
My spirit realized tranquility.

Why only where, one way concludes;
Through there, many way preludes.

Why in Ur elations, I'm sad;
And in my woes, u r, glad?

Why with others, our life we compare;
Isn't my own life precious and Flair?

Why we value the air we respire;
Only when life is, on the verge to expire?

Why my heart anyone can't understand.
Why in rains too, parched I Stand.

Why don't we perceive life?
Beyond our desired vision.
For everything, why we search a Reason.
Even thou with every reminiscence;
A part of me goes;
Still my soul holds no remorse.
Let any weary be life's course...
But as the only Recourse,

For me, to metamorphose;
Till end of life, these sonnets I'll compose.

Relations "

In this world, there are many relations,
But love and friendship, are crucial,
For heart to function.

The foundation stones for everlasting relations are:
Trust,
Understanding,
Commitment and caring;
There should not be any secrets, but only sharing.

Also,
The ideas, nature and mentality of two persons,
Should resemble;
The relation should be so strong, that no matter
What happens, it shouldn't stumble.

The principles, values and morals of other person should be so
appealing,
That we can adapt them, and give our life a new meaning.
If one goes wrong somewhere,
Then other should correct.
If one hurts another unknowingly;
Then they should immediately regret.

What's going on in one's heart and mind,
The other should understand.
They should realize each other's value, and
Preserve the relation like an emerald.

Apart from all these necessities for relation,
The most important one shouldn't be forgotten;
Which is:
Respect for one another.
Even though two people are very closer,
At times, they should give some space and privacy to each other.
Only then the relation will breathe and progress further.

It is easy to create relations,
Easier to break them;
But, the toughest part is maintaining relations...

A relation is a responsibility,
That binds two people together;
Still, maintaining their individuality.

If we cultivate these things in a relation,
The relation will spread everywhere,
Love and affection....

In any phase and aspect of life,
Only relations must be given priority;
Anything else earned in this world,
Fades away with time.
But, only the love and happiness, that relations bring, lasts till
eternity...

WORTH READING 18 Nov 2005

" It's About Life...."

Life is about experiences, which makes us to grow;
According to time and situations, it flows.

Sometimes everything seems clear and perfect,
Sometimes, it's all haze;
Maybe, life is a maze,
Every time, it leaves us amazed.

Not everyone in life, gets everything.
Sometimes,
You lose even by gaining, and gain, even by losing.
Why cry for losing something, which we never owned.
Life doesn't stop by accidents;
Else, the world would have ended.

Anyone can sympathize with ours hurts,
But, its only we bleed when it hurts.
Why should our life depend on someone, for happiness;
It's we, who create our own happiness...

Even in whole life, for someone, you change our ways;
At the end of day, with you, only your shadow stays.
The world may seem beautiful, and people influence by charm;
But, in times of need, it's our own hand, at the end of our arm.

Love and relations, are like sand,
Which we try to hold in our hand;
The more we want them to stay, the more they slip away.

Let no one and nothing control you,
Come what may;
Let you, only your faith in god sway.

Things that are just part of life,
Must be kept that way.
If we make them life, by mistake;
Heart is bound to break.

Today may seem faint and dull,
Compared to beautiful past;
But, tomorrow will bring beautiful moments to last.

Why look for a shoulder to cry on,
And support from someone;
One moment people are around, next moment gone;
Fact is,
He's the strongest man in life, who stands on his own...all alone.

Whenever in life, things seem to slip out of your hands;
Give it in god's hands,
Since, everything is safe in his hands.

After every sunset of hurts and despair,
There's a new sunrise of hopes and prayer.

It takes both rain and sunshine to make rainbows,
And like a spring, life always flows;
Even after a bright day ends,
Still in the dark night sky, stars and moon glows....

Faith & Works

There was an old man who operated a rowboat for ferrying passengers
between
an island and the mainland. One day a passenger noticed that he had
painted
on one oar the word Works, and on the other oar the word Faith.
Curiosity
led him to ask the meaning of this.

The old man replied, I will show you, dropping one oar, rowing only with
the
oar named Works. Of course, the boat just went around in circles. Then
he
switched oars, picking up Faith and dropping Works. And the little
rowboat
went around in circles again-this time in the opposite direction.

After this demonstration, the old man picked up both oars Faith and
Works,
and rowing with both oars together swiftly coursed over the water.

He looked at the passenger and said, You see, that is the way it is in
life
as well as in rowing a boat. You got to keep both oars in the water,
otherwise, you'll just go in circles.

Circles & Boundaries

Around every circle, a larger circle may be drawn. Around every fence,
there
is an open field that is waiting to be cultivated and harvested. Around
every set of limitations, there is a limitless expanse of possibilities.
Around every experience, there are larger and more meaningful
experiences.

Beyond every horizon, there is a world of discovery. It is yours if only
you
will make it yours. A universe filled with abundance awaits you if you
will
just accept it.

When you are standing on the ground, the horizon is only a few miles
away.
On a mountaintop, the horizon expands to dozens of miles. In an
airplane,
the horizon can be hundreds of miles away. In a spacecraft orbiting the
Earth, there are thousands of miles between the horizons. And when you
leave
Earth orbit, the horizon is infinite. Where is your mind's horizon?

You can choose to bounce back and forth off the walls of your
limitations,
or you can choose to transcend those limitations and expand your
horizons.
You are only limited by the boundaries you place on yourself. Rise above
your limitations, expand your thinking, and consider the possibilities.

Things Work Out
By Edgar A. Guest

Because it rains when we wish it wouldn't,
Because men do what they often shouldn't,
Because crops fail, and plans go wrong-
Some of us grumble all day long.
But somehow, in spite of the care and doubt,
It seems at last that things work out.

Because we lose where we hoped to gain,
Because we suffer a little pain,
Because we must work when we'd like to play-
Some of us whimper along life's way.
But somehow, as day always follows the night,
Most of our troubles work out all right.

Because we cannot forever smile,
Because we must trudge in the dust awhile,
Because we think that the way is long-
Some of us whimper that life's all wrong.
But somehow we live and our sky grows bright,
And everything seems to work out all right.

So bend to your trouble and meet your care,
For the clouds must break, and the sky grow fair.
Let the rain come down, as it must and will,
But keep on working and hoping still.
For in spite of the grumblers who stand about,
Somehow, it seems, all things work out.

Let Go

To "let go" does not mean to stop caring, it means l can't do it for
someone
else.

To " let go" is not to cut myself off; it's the realization l can't
control
another.

To "let go' is to admit powerlessness, which means the outcome is not in
my
hands.

To "let go" is not to enable, but to allow learning from natural
consequences.

To " let go" is not to try to change or blame another, it's to make the
most
of myself.

To "let go" is not to care for, but to care about.

To "let go" is not to judge, but to allow another to be a human being.

To "let go" is not to be in the middle arranging all the outcomes but to
allow others to affect their destinies.

To "let go" is not to be protective, it's to permit another to face
reality.

To "let go" is not to deny, but to accept.

To "let go" is not to nag, scold, or argue, but instead to search out my
own
shortcomings and correct them.

To "let go" is not to adjust everything to my desires, but to take each
day
as it comes, and cherish myself in it.

To "let go" is not to criticize and regulate anybody but to try to
become
what l dream l can be.

To " let go" is not to regret the past, but to grow and live for the
future.

To "let go" is to fear less, and love more.
