WORTH READING 30 Jun 2005

What if we could fly .. . . ?

What if we could fly away?
Swim among the stars,
Feel the warmth of other suns
Suns so near and yet so far..

What if we could touch the sky?
Speak the language of the trees?
Hear the branches whisper words
As they flutter in the breeze..

What if we could fight a storm?
Bellow back its angry cry,
Smite the mighty lightening bolts
Strike them from the sky

What if we could be the forest?
Harmony the robin's song?
Keep in all the good and right?
Banish everything evil and wrong?

What if we could fly away?
Embrace the starry sky?
Swim in waters of other seas?
Oh, what if we could fly . . . ?

A Rose

A certain man planted a Rose and watered it faithfully, and before it
blossomed, he examined it. He saw the bud that would soon blossom and
also
the THORNS. And he thought, "How can any beautiful flower come from a
plant
burdened with so many sharp thorns?"

Saddened by this thought, he neglected to water the Rose, and
before it
was ready to bloom, it died.

So it is with many people. Within every soul there is a Rose. The
God
like qualities planted in us at birth, grow amid the thorns of our
faults.

Many of us look at OURSELVES and see only the thorns, the defects.
We
despair, thinking that nothing good can possibly come from US. We
neglect to
water the good within us, and eventually it dies. We never realize our
potential. Some people do not see the Rose within themselves; someone
else
must show it to them.

One of the greatest gifts a person can possess is to be able to
reach
past the thorns and find the Rose within Others. This is the
characteristic
of LOVE, to look at a person, and knowing his faults, recognize the
nobility
in his Soul, and help him realize that he can overcome his faults.

If we show him the Rose, he will conquer the thorns. Then will he
blossom, blooming forth thirty, sixty, a hundred-fold as it is given to
him.

Our duty in this world is to help others by showing them their
Roses
and not their thorns. Only then can we achieve the LOVE we should feel
for
each other; only then can we bloom in our own garden.

The virtue of true love is not finding the perfect person, but loving
the
imperfect person perfectly

Refusing to Accept Failure

Sir Edmund Hillary was the first man to climb Mount Everest. On May 29,
1953
he scaled the highest mountain then known to man-29,000 feet straight
up. He
was knighted for his efforts.

He even made American Express card commercials because of it! However,
until
we read his book, High Adventure, we don't understand that Hillary had
to
grow into this success.

You see, in 1952 he attempted to climb Mount Everest, but failed. A few
weeks later a group in England asked him to address its members.

Hillary walked on stage to a thunderous applause. The audience was
recognizing an attempt at greatness, but Edmund Hillary saw himself as a
failure. He moved away from the microphone and walked to the edge of the
platform.

He made a fist and pointed at a picture of the mountain. He said in a
loud
voice, "Mount Everest, you beat me the first time, but I'll beat you the
next time because you've grown all you are going to grow... but I'm
still
growing!"

Eight Gifts

Eight Gifts that Do Not Cost A Cent:

1) THE GIFT OF LISTENING . . .
But you must REALLY listen. No interrupting, no daydreaming, no planning
your response. Just listening.

2) THE GIFT OF AFFECTION . . .
Be generous with appropriate hugs, kisses, pats on the back and
handholds.
Let these small actions demonstrate the love you have for family and
friends.

3) THE GIFT OF LAUGHTER . . .
Clip cartoons. Share articles and funny stories. Your gift will say, "I
love
to laugh with you."

4) THE GIFT OF A WRITTEN NOTE . . .
It can be a simple "Thanks for the help" note or a full sonnet. A brief,
handwritten note may be remembered for a lifetime, and may even change a
life.

5) THE GIFT OF A COMPLIMENT . . .
A simple and sincere, "You look great in red," "You did a super job" or
"That was a wonderful meal" can make someone's day.

6) THE GIFT OF A FAVOR . . .
Every day, go out of your way to do something kind.

7) THE GIFT OF SOLITUDE . . .
There are times when we want nothing better than to be left alone. Be
sensitive to those times and give the gift of solitude to others.

8) THE GIFT OF A CHEERFUL DISPOSITION . . .
The easiest way to feel good is to extend a kind word to someone, really
it's not that hard to say, Hello or Thank You. Friends are a very rare
jewel, indeed. They make you smile and encourage you to succeed. They
lend
an ear, they share a word of praise, and they always want to open their
hearts to us.

Love Letter from someone you can never expect.............

You will be happy that you read this all the way through.

As you got up this morning, I watched you, and hoped you would talk to
me,
even if it was just a few words, asking my opinion or thanking me for
something good that happened in your life yesterday. But I noticed you
were
too busy, trying to find the right outfit to wear. When you ran around
the
house getting ready, I knew there would be a few minutes for you to stop
and
say hello, but you were too busy. At one point you had to wait, fifteen
minutes with nothing to do except sit in a chair. Then I saw you spring
to
your feet. I thought you wanted to talk to me, but you ran to the phone
and
called a friend to get the latest gossip instead. I watched patiently
all
day long. With all your activities I guess you were too busy to say
anything
to me.

I noticed that before lunch you looked around, may be you felt
embarrassed
to talk to me, that is why you didn't bow your head. You glanced three
or
four tables o! ver and you noticed some of your friends talking to me
briefly before they ate, but you didn't. That's okay. There is still
more
time left, and I hope that you will talk to me yet. You went home and it
seems as if you had lots of things to do. After a few of them were done,
you
turned on the TV. I don't know if you like TV or not, just about
anything
goes there and you spend lot of time each day in front of it not
thinking
about anything, just enjoying the show. I waited patiently again as you
watched the TV and ate your meal, but again you didn't talk to me.

Bedtime I guess you felt too tired. After you said good night to your
family
you popped into bed and fell asleep in no time. That's okay because you
may
not realize that I am always there for you. I've got patience, more than
you
will ever know. I even want to teach you how to be patient with others
as
well.

I love you so much that I wait everyday for a nod, prayer or thought or
a
thankful part of your heart. It is hard to have a one-sided
conversation.
Well, you are getting up once again. And once again I will wait, with
nothing but love for you. Hoping that today you will give me some time.
Have
a nice day!

Your friend,GOD

Ebb and Flow

Five elements will make us all
And men will continue to slave and reign
Upon thrones of conquered happiness
Will lie gems of sorrow and pain

And the moon will wax and wane
Forming tides high and low
The earth will stir and shake
And we will reap and sow

The sun will set and rise
The fire will quench and burn
Oases will sprawl upon a desert
And paths of life will twist and turn

There will be times of drought and flood
Teeming rainforests and barren lands
And there will be thoughts of I and we
Slip away will the time's endless sands

There will be dreams of angel and ghoul
Of darkness and a divine glow
As long as the five elements stay
This life will continue to ebb and flow

Today

I woke up early today, excited over all I get to do before the clock
strikes midnight. I have responsibilities to fulfill today. I am
important.

My job is to choose what kind of day I am going to have.

Today I can complain because the weather is rainy or ...
I can be thankful that the grass is getting watered for free.

Today I can feel sad that I don't have more money or ...
I can be glad that my finances encourage me to plan my purchases wisely
and guide me away from waste.

Today I can grumble about my health or ... I can rejoice that I am
alive.

Today I can lament over all that my parents didn't give me
when I was growing up or ...
I can feel grateful that they allowed me to be born.

Today I can cry because roses have thorns or ...
I can celebrate that thorns have roses.

Today I can mourn my lack of friends or ...
I can excitedly embark upon a quest to discover new relationships.

Today I can whine because I have to go to work or ...
I can shout for joy because I have a job to do.

Today I can complain because I have to go to school or.. eagerly
open my mind and fill it with rich new tidbits of knowledge.

Today I can murmur dejectedly because I have to do housework or
I can appreciate that I have a place to call home.

Today stretches ahead of me, waiting to be shaped.
And here I am, the sculptor who gets to do the shaping.

What today will be like is up to me. I get to choose what kind of day I
will
have!

Have a GREAT DAY ... unless you have other plans.

Just remember, a 'Smile' will make the days go better.

WORTH READING 20 Jun 2005

Respond instead of reacting
by Azim Premji

I am very happy to be here with you. It is always wonderful to be with young people. The funny thing about life is that you realize the value of something only when it begins to leave you. As my hair turned from black, to salt and pepper and finally salt without the pepper, I have begun to realize the importance of youth.

At the same time, I have begun to truly appreciate some of the lessons I have leant along the way. I hope you will find them useful when you plan your own career and life.

The first thing I have learnt is that we must always begin with our
strengths. From the earliest years of our schooling, everyone focuses on what is wrong with us. There is an imaginary story of a rabbit. The rabbit was enrolled in a rabbit school. Like all rabbits, it could hop very well but could not swim. At the end of the year, the rabbit got high marks in hopping but failed in swimming. The parents were concerned. They said, "Forget about hopping. You are anyway good at it. Concentrate on swimming." They sent the rabbit for tuitions in swimming. And guess what happened? The rabbit forgot how to hop! As for swimming, have you ever seen a rabbit swim? While it is important for us to know what we are not good at, we must also cherish what is good in us. That is because it is only our strengths that can give us the energy to correct our weaknesses.

The second lesson I have learnt is that a rupee earned is of far more value than five found. My friend was sharing me the story of his eight year-old niece. She would always complain about the breakfast. The cook tried everything possible, but the child remained unhappy. Finally, my friend took the child to a supermarket and brought one of those ready-to-cook packets. The child had to
cut the packet and pour water in the dish. After that, it took two minutes in the microwave to be ready. The child found the food to be absolutely delicious? The difference was that she has cooked it! In my own life, I have found that nothing gives as much satisfaction as earning our rewards. In fact, what is gifted or inherited follows the old rule of come easy, go easy. I guess we only know the value of what we have if we have struggled to earn it.

The third lesson I have learnt is no one bats a hundred every time. Life has many challenges. You win some and lose some. You must enjoy winning. But do not let it go to the head. The moment it does, you are already on your way to failure. And if you do encounter failure along the way, treat it as an equally natural phenomenon. Don't beat yourself for it or any one else for that matter! Accept it, look at your own share in the problem, learn from it and move on. The important thing is, when you lose, do not lose the lesson.

The fourth lesson I have learnt is the importance of humility. Sometimes, when you get so much in life, you really start wondering whether you deserve all of it. This brings me to the value of gratitude. We have so much to be grateful for. Our parents, our teachers and our seniors have done so much for us that we can never repay them. Many people focus on the shortcomings, because obviously
no one can be perfect. But it is important to first acknowledge what we have received. Nothing in life is permanent but when a relationship ends, rather than becoming bitter, we must learn to savour the memory of the good things while they lasted.

The fifth lesson I learnt is that we must always strive for excellence. One way of achieving excellence is by looking at those better than ourselves. Keep learning what they do differently. Emulate it. But excellence cannot be imposed from the outside. We must also feel the need from within. It must become an obsession. It must involve not only our mind but also our heart and soul. Excellence is not an act but a habit. I remember the inspiring lines of a poem, which says that your reach must always exceed your grasp. That is heaven on earth. Ultimately, your only competition is yourself.

The sixth lesson I have learnt is never give up in the face of adversity. It comes on you suddenly without warning. One can either succumb to self-pity, wring your hands in despair or decide to deal with the situation with courage and dignity. Always keep in mind that it is only the test of fire that makes fine steel. A friend of mine shared this incident with me. His eight-year old daughter was struggling away at a jigsaw puzzle. She kept at it for hours but could not succeed. Finally, it went beyond her bedtime. My friend told her, "Look, why don't you just give up? I don't think you will complete it tonight. Look at it another day." The daughter looked with a strange look in her eyes, "But, dad, why should I give up? All the pieces are there! I have just got to put them together!" If we persevere long enough, we can put any problem into its perspective.

The seventh lesson I have learnt is that while you must be open to change, do not compromise on your values. Mahatma Gandhiji often said that you must open the windows of your mind, but you must not be swept off your feet by the breeze. You must define what your core values are and what you stand for. And these values are not so difficult to define. Values like honesty, integrity, consideration and humility have survived for generations. Values are not in the words used to describe them as much as in the simple acts.

At the end of the day, it is values that define a person more than the achievements. Because it is the means of achievement that decide how long the achievements will sustain. Do not be tempted by short cuts. The short cut can make you lose your way and end up becoming the longest way to the destination. And the final lesson I learnt
is that we must have faith in our own ideas even if everyone tells us that we are wrong.

There was once a newspaper vendor who had a rude customer. Every morning, the Customer would walk by, refuse to return the greeting, grab the paper off the shelf and throw the money at the vendor. The vendor would pick up the money, smile politely and say, "Thank you, Sir." One day, the vendor's assistant asked him, "Why are you always so polite with him when he is so rude to you? Why don't you throw the newspaper at him when he comes back tomorrow?" The vendor smiled and replied, "He can't help being rude and I can't help being polite. Why should I let his rude behaviour dictate my politeness?

In my youth, I thought of myself as a rebel and was many times, a rebel without a cause. Today, I realize that my rebellion was another kind of conformity. We defied our elders to fall in line with our peers!

Ultimately, we must learn to respond instead of reacting. When we respond, we evaluate with a calm mind and do whatever is most appropriate. We are in control of our actions. When we react, we are still doing what the other person wants us to do. I wish you all the best in your life and career.

I hope you achieve success in whatever way you define it and what gives you the maximum happiness in life. Remember, those who win are those who believe they can.

Busy but No Accomplishments

Do you ever feel like you have been busy all week but have not
accomplished
anything?

If you had to report on all your accomplishments for the week, would it
make
a difference?

It is amazing when we have to report what we've accomplished. We
actually
get done what needs to get done. But, if there is no reporting
requirement
then we can fill up a week with busy things yet never really accomplish
anything. Why? Because, we have no focus.

I remember when I worked for my previous employer. Each quarter we had
to
report on what we accomplished in relation to our targets. You can be
sure
there was focus on these targets as I knew each quarter I had to comment
on
what we had achieved.

Now that I am working for myself, there is no one to report to. So it is
very easy to be busy but accomplish very little. An example of this is
our
other website. I had no newsletter that had to be done weekly. I had no
updates to post, so I worked away on the website, but with very little
focus. I was getting frustrated as I felt I was investing a lot of time
and
seeing no progress.

So, I developed a list and each week if I do nothing else I make sure I
complete the items on the list. I also put up a "What's New" page, each
week. So now I am reporting to my readers. If I do nothing then the page
would be blank. Not a good incentive for readers to come back and visit
the
site.

My point in sharing my experiences with you is that your time is
valuable.
And, while you can be busy, what are you accomplishing? Are you moving
towards the goals in your life?

I recently found a quote card that I previously had hanging in my
office. It
says, "What I do today is important, because I am exchanging a day of my
life for it." Reading this quote reminded me how important it is to be
focused and use my time wisely. Once a day is gone, you can never get it
back!

The Shadow Of Your Wings

When skies are dark and trouble rains
My heart with joy stills sings
For there's a refuge from life's storms
Under the shadow of Your wings.

How precious is Your love O God!
How precious, Your thoughts of me!
Thank You for Your love O God,
For lasting peace and security.

Under the shadow of Your wings
I am secure from all harm.
Under the shadow of Your wings
I'm held safely in Your arms.

I will praise Your name forever
Of Your great love I will sing,
Thank You Lord for holding me
Under the shadow of Your wings.

The Pastor's Cat
by Dwight Nelson
He had a kitten that climbed up a tree in his backyard and then was
afraid
to come down. The pastor coaxed, offered warm milk, etc. The kitty would
not
come down. The tree was not sturdy enough to climb, so the pastor
decided
that if he tied a rope to his car and drove away so that the tree bent
down,
he could then reach up and get the kitten. He did! All the while,
checking
his progress in the car frequently, then
figured if he went just a little bit further, the tree would be bent
sufficiently for him
to reach the kitten.

But as he moved a little further forward, the rope broke. The tree went
"boing!" and the kitten instantly sailed through the air-out of sight.

The pastor felt terrible. He walked all over the neighborhood asking
people
if they'd seen a little kitten. No. Nobody had seen a stray kitten. So
he
prayed, "Lord, I just commit this kitten to your keeping," and went on
about
his business.

A few days later he was at the grocery store, and met one of his church
members. He happened to look into her shopping cart and was amazed to
see
cat food. Now this woman was a cat hater and everyone knew it, so he
asked
her, "Why are you buying cat food when you hate cats so much?"

She replied, "You won't believe this," and told him how her little girl
had
been begging her for a cat, but she kept refusing. Then a few days
before,
the child had begged again, so the Mom finally told her little girl,
"Well
if God gives you a cat, I'll let you keep it."

She told the pastor, "I watched my child go out in the yard, get on her
knees, and ask God for a cat. And really, Pastor, you won't believe
this,
but I saw it with my own eyes. A kitten suddenly came flying out of the
blue
sky, with its paws outspread, and
landed right in front of her"

Never underestimate the Power of God and His unique sense of humor!

Be A Lake

The old Master instructed the unhappy young man to put a handful of salt
in
a glass of water and then to drink it. "How does it taste?" the Master
asked. "Awful," spat the apprentice.

The Master chuckled and then asked the young man to take another handful
of
salt and put it in the lake. The two walked in silence to the nearby
lake
and when the apprentice swirled his handful of salt into the lake, the
old
man said, "Now drink from the lake."

As the water dripped down the young man's chin, the Master asked, "How
does
it taste?" "Good!" remarked the apprentice. "Do you taste the salt?"
asked
the Master. "No," said the young man.

The Master sat beside this troubled young man, took his hands, and said,

"The pain of life is pure salt; no more, no less. The amount of pain in
life
remains the same, exactly the same. But the amount we taste the 'pain'
depends on the container we put it into. So when you are in pain, the
only
thing you can do is to enlarge your sense of things ..... Stop being a
glass. Become a lake!"

When Friends Let You Down

When friends let you down,
You always feel sad.
Then if you retaliate,
You really feel bad!

You, Lord, say that's a no-no.
It's Your job to judge.
It's us that they hurt,
But their name they smudge.

You want me to forgive . . . .
Okay, Lord, that's done.
Now You're telling me what?
It's I that have won!?

This one thing I really know.
Forgiveness cleanses my heart.
Now I can better praise You.
It gives me a new start!

Lord, Your love is there eternally,
And so thankful am I.
That I will live in Your presence
Up there in the sky!

I know I'm not worthy
Of all the love You bestow.
But I'll be forever grateful,
Lord, I do love You so!

Journey of Life

Strange is life, stranger are its ways,
Filled as much with mystery as much as thrill,
When the shores are silent, the waves leave the bay,
Like moments that seem as much alive as much as still.

Having reached crossroads at life, I'm feeling weary,
After the toils of sweat that over years I have shed,
And I'm feeling like the skies too are cloudy and dreary,
Like the emptiness within and the heart that has bled.

The sun comes up, it's time to face the day,
and I think that life shall today be all right-
And as the day wears on I dont let my nerves fray,
To the hollowness that creeps within me every night.

I know its time to look ahead on the outside,
time to tread life's journey on a new way -
I'm wonderin' where I'll ever find the strength inside,
to do it all again without going astray.

I have to erase the memories of how it began
sift away the emotions from reality -
I wipe the mirror, dust on my hands,
The shadow clears, a new personality.

I look to the sky, a cloudless sway
Put a conch to my ear, a silent sea
Strange is life, stranger are its ways
An empty path ahead, that connects to me...

IF YOU ..

Your words, your dreams, and your thoughts have power to create
conditions
in your life. What you speak about, you can bring about.

If you keep saying you can't stand your job, you might lose your job.

If you keep saying you can't stand your body, your body can become sick.

If you keep saying you can't stand your car, your car could be stolen or
just stop operating.

If you keep saying you're broke, guess what? You'll always be broke.

If you keep saying you can't trust a man or trust a woman, you will
always
find someone in your life to hurt and betray you.

If you keep saying you can't find a job, you will remain unemployed.

If you keep saying you can't find someone to love you or believe in you,
your very thought will attract more experiences to confirm your beliefs.

If you keep talking about a divorce or break up in a relationship, the
you
might end up with it.

Turn your thoughts and conversations around to be more positive and
power
packed with faith, hope, love and action.

Don't be afraid to believe that you can have what you want and deserve.

Watch your Thoughts, they become words.
Watch your words, they become actions
Watch your actions, they become habits.
Watch your Habits, they become character.
Watch your Character, for it becomes your Destiny.

The minute you settle for less than you deserve, you get even less than
you settle for.

"In the search for me, I discovered truth. In the search for truth, I
discovered love. In the search for love, I discovered God. And in God, I
have found everything."

WHISPERS

The man whispered, "God, speak to me"
and a meadowlark sang.
But, the man did not hear.
.
So the man yelled, "God, speak to me"
and the thunder rolled across the sky.
But, the man did not listen.
.
The man looked around and said,
"God let me see you."
And a star shined brightly.
But the man did not see.
.
And, the man shouted,
"God show me a miracle."
And, a life was born.
But, the man did not notice.
.
So, the man cried out in despair,
"Touch me God, and let me know you are here." Whereupon, God reached
down
and touched the man.
But, the man brushed the butterfly away .
and walked on.
.
I found this to be a great reminder that God
is always around us in the little and simple things
that we take for granted . even in our electronic age ...
so I would like to add one more:
The man cried,
"God, I need your help!"
And an e-mail arrived reaching out
with good news and encouragement.
But, the man deleted it and continued crying

The Perfume . . .

As she stood in front of her 5th grade class on the very first day of
the
school, she told the children an untruth. Like most teachers she looked
at
her students and said she loved them all the same. However that was
impossible, because there in the front row, slumped in the seat was a
little boy named Teddy Stoddard.

Mrs. Thompson had watched Teddy the year before and noticed that he did
not
play well with the other children, that his clothes were messy, and
that he
constantly needed a bath. In addition, Teddy could be unpleasant.

It got to the point where Mrs. Thompson would actually take delight in
marking his papers with a broad red pen, making bold X's and then
putting a
big "F" at the top of his papers. At the school where Mrs. Thompson
taught,
she was required to review each student past records and she put
Teddy's
off until the last. However when she reviewed his file, she was in for
a
surprise.

Teddy's first grade teacher wrote, "Teddy is a bright child with a ready

laugh. He does his work neatly and has good manners. He is a joy to be
around."

His second grade teacher wrote Teddy is an excellent student, well liked
by
his classmates, but he is troubled because his mother has a terminal
illness and life at home must be a struggle."

His third grade teacher wrote, "Teddy's mother's death has been hard on

him. He tries to do his best, but his father doesn't show much interest
and
his home life will soon affect him if some steps are not taken."

His fourth grade teacher wrote, "Teddy is withdrawn and doesn't show
much
interest in school. He doesn't have many friends and he sometimes sleeps
in
class."

By now Mrs. Thompson realized the problem and she was ashamed of
herself.
She felt even worse when her students brought her Christmas presents,
wrapped beautifully in bright ribbons and paper, except for Teddy's,
whose
present was clumsy and wrapped in heavy brown paper, the he would have
got
from a grocery bag. Mrs. Thompson took pains to open it in the middle of

the other presents.

Some of the children started to laugh when she found the rhinestone
bracelet with some of the stones missing and a bottle of perfume that
was
only one quarter full. But she stifled the children's laughter when she
exclaimed how pretty the bracelet was, putting it on, and dabbing some
of
the perfume on her wrist. Teddy Stoddard stayed on after school that day
just long to say, " Mrs. Thompson, today you smelled just like my mom
used
to." After the children left, she cried for at long time

On that very day, she quit teaching reading, writing, and arithmetic.
Instead she began to teach children. Mrs. Thompson paid particular
attention
to Teddy. As she worked with him, his mind seemed to come alive. The
more
she encouraged him, the faster he responded. By the end of the year,
Teddy
had become one of the smartest children in class. And, despite her lie
that
she loved all the children the same, Teddy became one of her "pets".

A year later, she found a note under her door, from Teddy, telling her
that
she was still the best teacher he had ever had in his life.

Six years went by before she got another letter from Teddy. He then
wrote
that he had finished high school, third in his class, and she was still
the
best teacher he ever had in is whole life.

Four years after that she received another note saying that while things

had been tough at times, he still stayed in school, had stuck with it,
and
would soon graduate with the highest honors. He assured Mrs. Thompson
that
she was still the best and most favorite teacher he ever had in his
whole
life.

Then four more years passed and yet another letter came. This time he
explained that after he got his bachelor's degree, he decided to go a
little
further. The letter explained that she was still the best and most
favourite teacher he ever had in his whole life. But now the name was
little longer ... the letter was signed, Theodore F. Stoddard, MD.

The story does not end here. There was yet another letter that spring.
Teddy said the he met this girl who was going to marry.

He explained that his father had died a couple of years ago and he was
wondering if Mrs. Thompson would agree to sit at the wedding in the
place
that was usually reserved for the mother of the groom.

Of course, Mrs. Thompson did. And guess what, she wore that bracelet
- the one with several rhinestones missing. Moreover, she also
remembered
to wear the perfume that Teddy's mother wore on the last Christmas they
spent together.

They hugged each other, and Dr. Stoddard whispered in Mrs. Thompson's
ear,
"Thank you Mrs. Thompson for believing in me. Thank you so much for
making
me feel important and showing me that I could make a difference."

Mrs. Thompson, with tears in her eyes, whispered back, "Teddy, you have
it
all wrong. You were the one who taught me that I could make a
difference. I
didn't know how to teach till I met you."

You could have a Teddy standing in front of you and yet not realize it .

Learn to Live

Its been years -
That I have been lonely, engulfed in my deepest fears,
Having had none there to share or wipe away my tears.

I don't know of what I have been afraid-
But I felt worn down with an unknown fear.
Through life's every fall and stumble-
My eyes have poured down my face soft tears.

I don't know where I went wrong,
I can't say what led such consequences here,
But, whenever I have tried to find the way-
I have only been through paths austere.

With so much lying within my soul-
And a deep sense of wanting freedom at will,
I tried to find the strength within-
But day after day I found myself standing still.

It's been so long since I have been practising -
The art of being able to endure and give,
Which through my past I've learnt and grown,
And, now I know it's time for me to learn to live.

THE HIDDEN TREASURE

A man was exploring some caves by the seashore. In one of the caves he
found
a canvas bag with a bunch of hardened clay balls. It was like someone had
rolled up some clay and left them out in the sun to bake. They didn't
look
like much, but they intrigued the man so he took the bag out of the cave
with him.

As he strolled along the beach, to pass the time, he would throw the
clay
balls one at a time out into the ocean as far as he could throw. He
thought
little about it until he dropped one of the balls and it cracked open on
a
rock. Inside was a beautiful, precious stone. Excited, the man started
breaking open the remaining clay balls. Each contained a similar
treasure.
He found hundreds of dollars worth of jewels in the 20 or so clay balls
he
had left, then it struck him.

He had been on the beach a long time. He had thrown maybe 50 or 60 of
the
clay balls with their hidden treasure into the ocean waves. Instead of
hundreds of dollars in treasure, he could have taken home thousands, but
he
just threw it away.

You know sometimes, it's like that with people. We look at someone,
maybe
even ourselves, and we see the external clay vessel. It doesn't look
like
much from the outside.

It isn't always beautiful or sparkling, so we discount it; we see that
person as less important than someone more beautiful or stylish or well
known or wealthy.

But we have not taken the time to find the treasure hidden inside that
person by God.

There is a treasure in each and every one of us. The Bible says we are
fearfully and wonderfully made. I don't think he means just our physical
bodies. I think he means our spiritual selves, which are sometimes
hidden
from others by the *earthen vessel*.

if you take the time to get to know that person, and if you ask the
Father
to show you that person the way He sees them, then the clay begins to
peel
away and the brilliant gem begins to shine forth.

Seven Things You Must Give to Others if You Want to Achieve Success!

by Chris Widener

A major part of the process of achieving success and living the kind of
life
that you dream of is to give. Many people think that to get what you
want
you have to take it. There is a universal truth though that the true
path to
get what you want is to give. When you give, you get. What you sow, you
shall reap. If this is true, then what is it we must give? I'll show you
the
way...

Give Others Your Honesty. The world we live in has a simple rule that
most
follow: Lie when you have to. Unfortunately, this may make some people
wealthy but it makes us humans poor. To achieve success is to become
wealthy
not only in money, but in character. To be successful, truly successful,
is
to be able to attain your goals and keep your character at the same
time!

"Honesty is the most single most important factor having a direct bear!
ing
on the final success of an individual, corporation, or product." Ed
McMahon

Mister McMahon is right, though others will tell you otherwise. Some
people
will say, "You have to bend the truth to get ahead." Not true. Some of
the
most successful people who have ever lived where honest people.

How about you? Are you honest in all things? The problem with little
lies is
they become big ones. Lies spin out of control. You get caught in one
lie
and you lie to get out of it etc.

In all things and at all times, give others your honesty.

Give Others Your Respect. Most of the time we give people respect based
on
what they have done or what they have accomplished. We gauge whether or
not
they are "worthy" of it based on what we know of what they have achieved
or
who they know or are related to.

But I believe we should have a higher standard: We respect people not
for
what they have done or for who they are related to or for what they can
do
for us. Inst! ead, we respect people for simply being.

What would happen in our world, in our company, and yes, even in our
families if we started with respect for everyone else rather than making
them earn it? I think we would see that most people would live up to the
respect that we give them!

Give Others Your Vulnerability. We are taught to "be strong." And yes,
we
should be strong. But we have also embraced something that I think keeps
us
from having the kind of life that we long for. It is an idea that keeps
us
from experiencing the kind of relationships that would bring deep
meaning to
us. It is the idea of vulnerability.

"But Chris, make yourself vulnerable and people will step all over you!"
It
is true that this will happen. But I have also seen that most people
will be
drawn to you. They will help you. They will open up to you. You see, we
are
all broken people inside. We all have secrets. Yes, everyone plays "the
poser" at some point in their lives, but when one le! t's down their
veil,
others soon follow - and we all win.

Give Others Your Care. Too many people are running around this old earth
not
caring about others. The days of "Look Out for Number One" and "Winning
Through Intimidation" are over! Let's bring about a new day when we can
care
about others AND succeed!

Take the time to show people you care. Listen to them. Empathize with
them.
Love them. Now, I don't mean that you have to go around hugging everyone
-
that probably wouldn't fly in corporate America anyway - but we can take
some time to step back from business and be human! And I have found that
when we do so, our business succeeds as well!

Give Others Your Passion. There is nothing this world needs more than
passionate people. And people need passionate people. Living in this day
and
age can be tiring. The hustle and bustle of it all can wear you down and
tire you out. Give your passion to others and fire them up.

Don't just be humdrum - be excited.! Give people all the energy you can
muster up. And you will find that energy reciprocal. They will get
energized
and passionate. This in turn will fire you up more when you are already
charged and get you going altogether when you don't feel like moving at
all!

Give Others Your Experience. We all have areas that we excel in and they
are
usually areas that we have experience in. One of the things we can do to
make our lives more meaningful and be of utmost help to others is to
show
them the way through the experiences we have.

Sometimes it will be what they should do: Shortcuts to take, people to
meet,
etc. Sometimes it will be what they should not do: Shortcuts not to take
and
people to stay away from! Whatever it is, we can be of service to others
by
giving them our experience and ultimately it will make us all better!

Give Others Your Help. All in all, what we want to do is to help others.
Zig
Ziglar says that if we will "help enough others get what they w! ant, we
will in turn get what we want." If we want to be successful, we should
consider ourselves servants of other people. What can we do to help them
and
make them better?

If you want to live the life you have always dreamed of ask yourself if
you:

Give Others Your Honesty
Give Others Your Respect
Give Others Your Vulnerability
Give Others Your Care
Give Others Your Passion
Give Others Your Experience
Give Others Your Help

This is the true path to greatness and success, not only in business but
in
life!
