Those who achieve great things

Those who achieve great things are not any smarter or more capable than
others. They have simply decided to make use of what's available to
them.

Those who achieve great things encounter challenges, obstacles and
problems,
just as everyone else does. Achievers have simply chosen to work their
way
through the difficult challenges, rather than be stopped by them.

Those who achieve great things experience plenty of setbacks and
disappointments. They have simply decided to take renewed determination,
instead of discouragement, from those disappointments.

Those who achieve great things have exactly the same amount of time
available in each day as does everyone else. They have simply committed
to
making the most of each moment.

Those who achieve great things are not any different than anyone else
except
for this. They decide to do it, and then follow through with persistent,
consistent action.

In this way, very ordinary people realize quite extraordinary levels of
achievement. In this way, you can do it too.

MOTHER

I appreciate the many prayers
you've whispered during
the worst moments in my life,
and the many hopes for my success
in all that I dreamed of.

I appreciate the kind wishes
that would make me so happy and fulfilled,
and the gentle words of encouragement
that were meant to strengthen my quests.

I appreciate the moments of sorrow
you experienced during my failures,
and the little gestures of kindness
that always made me feel better.

I appreciate your acceptance,
your ability to understand,
and the sincere friendship
that always gave me such security.

I appreciate the wisdom
of all the lessons you taught,
and the meaning behind the words
"unconditional love."

I appreciate all you've done -
every word and gesture.
I know you've been the best there is -
a mother beyond all compare.

For all you've done...
thank you, Mom.
For all that you are...
I love you.

WORTH READING 27 May 2005

Tell yourself I can do it!

Tell yourself I can do it
Do not give up on your inner power
Hang in there
Think positive

There are times when it seems so dark
Nothing left
Only void
Only distress
Only pain

It's alright to fall
But do not give up your goal
You want to be happy
You want to be merry

Stand up again
Continue to struggle
For the light will shine
The warmth will come

How hard we try is the question
There is no discussion
We do have inert power
Waiting to be discovered

As long as we live
We must keep on digging
For that inner determination
To find an inspiration

Sometimes we cannot
But it will be found
If we want it hard enough
Life isn't easy, it is quite tough
Sometimes it can be very rough
It is a great challenge

After a sky full of clouds comes rain
After night comes day
After sadness, sometimes there are tears
But they sure are a relief

Anguish cannot last
We must not let it
We must fight it
Resist it and with all our heart and REFUSE IT

It should not ruin our days
For the days are not guaranteed
Our lives are short indeed
No matter how long we live
We must try our best to survive
Against the difficulties we encounter
It is that inert power we must conjure

Do not give in
To the troubles deep within
We must reach somewhere
A place we can call shore

Don't stand there
Feeling sorry for yourself
No one will feel your troubles deep within
No matter how much you explain

It's only you
That feels you
Very much
So do not lose touch
With your inert power
For only that
Will get you out
Of this distress

Hang in there
Be strong and dare
To keep digging
For the savior

In God don't ever lose trust
For only He helps those who dare
To ask for help
To ask for a new step
To climb on
To reach to the top

Even if that "top" is not so high enough
But it is still better than to die
Of feelings of anguish and misery
Rather than at least enjoying minimal happiness

WE must all try to find ourselves for each of us is one of a kind
We all have good and strength within
But we must really dig in

Tell yourself I CAN DO IT
DO NOT DIE BEFORE SAYING ITAND TRYING IT!
Do not waste a moment
Of this valuable life
Only being in strife
Give it all you've got

Believe me
We all have moments of weakness
But we must put and effort to overcome it
Determination and persistence
Must always be awakened

I wish we can all bare our pain
I wish we can all win this game
The game of life
For life is a mystery
A big query

I pray in my words you find comfort
For some day, I know I myself will be unconfident
Maybe I can come back and read my guidelines
And they might become my army behind some enemy lines!

The Day No Child Would Cry

One day there will come a day,
when no child would cry,
when all tears would dry,
and smiles would appear.

Did you ever begin to wonder?
What it would be like?
If a child didn't have to cry,
to feel pain, sorrow,
to feel empty?

We all grow from learning
right from wrong.
Why would we hurt a child?
Children need love.
We, as parents,
are taught to provide it.

We need to learn to give
a child a day of smiles and joy,
and the freedom to be a child.
Never lay our troubles on them.

When a day comes when a child doesn't cry,
will be the day the world
will become a brighter place.
A child lights up the world.

We wouldn't need the sun,
the moon -
we'd have the sunshine, the starlight,
of a child's smile.

It's all the world really needs,
and we can make it happen,
If we let a child be what,
they want to be.

So deep down,
remember -
a child grows from us.
So let's give a child a reason
to smile.
never a day of tears again.

No child should have to cry.

WORTH READING 25 May 2005

No more
-Dahlia Sami

As I walked to my car late at night
I saw a shadow of a child

He knelt on a wall on the cold side walk
Trying to sleep where it was not so dark

I said: Hey, little child
He looked at me and sadly, slightly smiled

I asked: are you out here alone
All on your own

With a melancholic look he answered yes
And continued: but why do you ask, you couldn't care less!

At that moment I did not conceive his answer as hostile
I felt his feelings were fragile

He was about to leave so I shouted: No! Wait! I care!
He said I don't think anyone really cares

I asked: why?
He seemed some how shy

For a minute he remained silent
He seemed reluctant

He looked surprised that I showed interest
But at this point I think he thought I was unlike the rest

People see him every day
But no one sensed his dismay

I insisted again and asked: tell me your story
I will listen to you, do not worry

In sorrow he said: I opened my eyes to this world and found myself on
the
streets
Nothing to do but run around in search of food or some sort of treat

Form just any one who might believe my need
And give me something to drink or eat

I never bathed except under the cold rain
And had nothing but endless pain

I always wondered what it would be like
To have someone to take care of me and be kind

Like that child, look! Over there
With his mother and father to care

He stopped talking, took a long breath and sighed
He tried to hold his tears, but then he cried

I could not bear the sight
I held him in my arms so tight

He wept and wept
Till he slept

I found my self carrying his frail body
I tried to stay steady

My tears came down quietly
I cried silently

To myself I thought: Why leave such innocence alone
And simply be gone!

I could not find an answer for I always found reasons
Oh no, but not his time! I could no bear any answers

Children are a blessing
This poor one was collapsing

I took the frail one to my home
I couldn't leave him all alone

I am old and alone
He is too young and on his own

I was lucky and had a good life
Why leave this one in strife

Maybe it was destiny
For me to be his good company

I will bathe him and nourish him
Dress him and comb him

I want to give him a proper life
And make an effort to end his unbearable strife

He suddenly woke up from his sleep
To find me sleeping by him cheek to cheek

With my big arms lovingly wrapped around him
He could barely lift them

I woke up and told him hush my child hush
Sleep and don't think too much or rush

You are safe, here with me
Try to sleep in serenity

Taste what it would be like
To have a father for at least this night

He was too tired and confused, but smiled and came to me
He slept as if he hadn't before in his life, he slept quietly

As the morning came and the sun shined
I woke up, but didn't find him by my side

I jumped in fear
But found him near

He had been standing by the bedside
Waiting for me to lift an eyelid

He said good morning kind sir
Tell me why did you bring me here?

I smiled and said
Are you afraid?

He said no, you seem very kind
But I want to understand

I told him it is simple
You are too little

To be all alone out there
I want to watch for you as you grow and to care

Yesterday you said that I wouldn't care less
But to me you were a great bliss

I also was alone
Out there on my own

And someone came to me and asked
Why was I all alone?

We were both lucky and blessed
For destiny to give us a rest

Now you and I are together
Hopefully forever

No more shall you be hungry or cold
Or feel emptiness or hear a scold

>From someone who might be heartless or cruel
Or someone who might be rude

Only now we need to try to find
More of our kind

This house is big and spacious
We can use it to make others gracious!

Hand in hand you and i
We can at least give it a try

I have faith in you although you are still so young
But someday you will grow up and be so fine

I know you will grow to have lots of compassion
I know you will be able to put so much addition

Into this effort of helping the homeless and needy
Those who have trouble fitting into society

LIFE IS A THEATER

Invite Your Audience Carefully

Not everyone is healthy enough to have a front row seat in our lives.
There are some people in your life that need to be loved from a
DISTANCE.

It's amazing what you can accomplish when you let go of, or at least
minimize your time with, draining, negative, incompatible,
not-going-anywhere relationships/friendships.
Observe the relationships around you. Pay attention.

Which ones lift and which ones lean?
Which ones encourage and which ones discourage?
Which ones are on a path of growth uphill and which ones are going
downhill?
When you leave certain people do you feel better or feel worse?
Which ones always have drama or don't really understand, know or
appreciate
you?

The more you seek quality, respect, growth, peace of mind, love and
truth
around you...the easier it will become for you to decide who gets to sit
in
the front row and who should be moved to the balcony of Your Life.

"If you cannot change the people around you, CHANGE the people you are
around."

Remember that the people we hang with will have an impact on both our
lives
and our income. And so we must be careful to choose the people we hang
out
with, as well as the information with which we feed our minds.

We should not share our dreams with negative people, Nor feed our dreams
with negative thoughts.
It's your choice and your life.....

It's up to you who and what you let in it......

IF and WHEN

IF and WHEN were friends. Every week they met and had lunch. Their
conversation usually centered on all the things they were going to
achieve.
They both had many dreams and they loved to talk about them.

This particular Saturday when they met, WHEN sensed that IF was not in a
great mood. As usual they sat at the table reserved for them and ordered
their lunch. Once they placed their order, WHEN questioned IF. "IF what
is
wrong with you? You don't seem your usual cheery self?"

IF looked at WHEN and replied, "I'm not sure, I just don't feel like I
am
making any progress. This last week I saw a course I wanted to take if
only
I had the time to take it."

WHEN knew exactly how IF felt. "Yeah," replied WHEN, "I too saw a course
and
I am going to register when I get enough money together." WHEN then
said,
"well what about that new job you were going to apply for. You were so
excited about it last week, did you apply?"

IF responded, "If my computer didn't break down last week, I would have
applied. But, my computer is not working, so I could not type my
resume."

"Don't worry about it IF, when you are ready another job will come
through.
I have been thinking about looking for another job also, but I will wait
and
when the weather gets nicer I will look then." WHEN then went on to tell
IF
about his week, hoping that it would cheer him up a bit.

The man at the next table couldn't help overhear WHEN and IF. They both
were
talking about when this and if that, finally he couldn't take it
anymore.
"Excuse me gentlemen," the man said. IF and WHEN both looked at the man
and
wondered what he wanted. The man continued, "I'm sorry, but I couldn't
help
hearing your conversation. I think I know how you could solve your
problems."

IF smiled and thought, how could a complete stranger know how to solve
all
of their problems. If only he knew. When he realized the challenges they
faced there was no way he could solve their problems! Curious, IF asked
the
gentleman, "How do you think you can solve our problems?"

The gentleman smiled and said, "You only need listen to yourselves. It
reminds me of an old proverb:
'If and When were planted, and Nothing grew'."

IF and WHEN looked puzzled. The gentleman smiled and said, "Start
counting
how many times you use the words 'if' and 'when'. Rather than thinking
'if
and when', start doing, take action, stop talking about 'if and when'."

IF and WHEN both looked surprised, and suddenly realized that what the
gentleman had said was so true. Both of them were guilty of thinking,
acting
and living their life for the "ifs and whens". The gentleman left and IF
and
WHEN's conversation changed. They made a pact that when they met for
lunch
next week, there would be no "ifs and whens"; they would only talk about
what they accomplished

DARE TO BE

When a new day begins,
dare to smile gratefully.

When there is darkness,
dare to be the first to shine a light.

When there is injustice,
dare to be the first to condemn it.

When something seems difficult,
dare to do it anyway.

When life seems to beat you down,
dare to fight back.

When there seems to be no hope,
dare to find some.

When you're feeling tired,
dare to keep going.

When times are tough,
dare to be tougher.

When love hurts you,
dare to love again.

When someone is hurting,
dare to help them heal.

When another is lost,
dare to help them find the way.

When a friend falls,
dare to be the first to extend a hand.

When you cross paths with another,
dare to make them smile.

When you feel great,
dare to help someone else feel great too.

When the day has ended,
dare to feel as you've done your best.

Dare to be the best you can -
At all times, Dare to be!

Believe while others ....
By William Arthur Ward

Believe while others are doubting.

Plan while others are playing.

Study while others are sleeping.

Decide while others are delaying.

Prepare while others are daydreaming.

Begin while others are procrastinating.

Work while others are wishing.

Save while others are wasting.

Listen while others are talking.

Smile while others are frowning.

Commend while others are criticizing.

Persist while others are quitting.

Answered Prayers

A voyaging ship was wrecked during a storm at sea and only two of the
men on
it were able to swim to a small, desert like island. The two survivors,
not
knowing what else to do, agreed that they had no other recourse but to
pray
to God. However, to find out whose prayer was more powerful, they agreed
to
divide the territory between them and stay on opposite sides of the
island.

The first thing they prayed for was food. The next morning, the first
man
saw a fruit-bearing tree on his side of the land, and he was able to eat
its
fruit. The other man's parcel of land remained barren.

After a week, the first man was lonely and he decided to pray for a
wife.
The next day, another ship was wrecked, and the only survivor was a
woman
who swam to his side of the land. On the other side of the island, there
was
nothing.

Soon the first man prayed for a house, clothes, more food. The next day,
like magic, all of these were given to him. However, the second man
still
had nothing.

Finally, the first man prayed for a ship, so that he and his wife would
leave the island. In the morning, he found a ship docked at his side of
the
island.

The first man boarded the ship with his wife and decided to leave the
second
man on the island. He considered the other man unworthy to receive God's
blessings, since none of his prayers had been answered. As the ship was
about to leave, the first man heard a voice from heaven booming, "Why
are
you leaving your companion on the island?"

"My blessings are mine alone, since I was the one who prayed for them,"
the
first man answered.

"His prayers were all unanswered and so he does not deserve anything."

"You are mistaken!" the voice rebuked him. "He had only one prayer,
which I
answered. If not for that, you would not have received any of my
blessings."

"Tell me," the first man asked the voice, "What did he pray for that I
should owe him anything?"
"He prayed that all your prayers be answered."

For all we know, our blessings are not the fruits of our prayers alone,
but
those of another praying for us.

May This Encourage You, Always

Don't spend major time with minor people.
If there are people in your life who continually disappoint you, break
promises, stomp on your dreams, are too judgmental, have different
values
and don't have your back during difficult times...that is not
friendship.

To have a friend, be a friend.
Sometimes in life as you grow, your friends will either grow or go.
Surround
yourself with people who reflect values, goals interests and lifestyles.

When I think of any of my successes,
I am thankful to God from whom all blessings flow, and to my family and
friends who enrich my life.

Over the years my phone book has changed because I changed, for the
better.
At first, you think you're going to be alone, but after awhile, new
people
show up in your life that make it so much sweeter and easier to endure.

Remember what your elders used to say,
"Birds of a feather flock together.
If you're an eagle, don't hang around chickens:
Chickens can't fly!"

The Answer

It's often hard to think the positive
when bad things happen to those you love.
We don't understand why they suffer,
so we blame our loving God above.

How can this be for their own good?
What can they possibly learn from pain?
Haven't they gone through enough torture?
What is the prize that they will gain?

We see the tears roll down their faces
while their hearts are breaking in two.
Why would a loving God look down on them,
and watch all the sorrow that they go through.

Why won't He change their situation?
He has the power to turn it all around.
Instead they go on living the same way,
Hurt and sorrow is all they have found.

But do they listen to what they read,
about waiting patiently on the Lord.
Or do they go on doubting His promises,
and not truly believing His holy Word.

No wonder why they are full of sorrow,
they are dealing with it on their own.
They act on their emotions and feelings,
and they try to solve things all alone.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
that means in every thing you ever do.
He will direct every step that you take,
and never will let go of you.

In the year 2025...

Reunion!

"Class of 2001-2005 - Reunion", read the banner,
oh! the last 20 years has gone so sooner,
The great college days, I started remembering,
Seems like only yesterday I finished engineering.

Seeing my class mates, after 20 years,
My eyes were filled with tears,
Everyone has changed a lot,
No one escaped nature's plot.

Guys who were smart and handsome,
have become bald and buxom,
Girls who used to fill our dreams,
Almost brought out screams.

Saw the girl, whom once I thought as my life,
oops!, today she is somebody else's wife,
after years, talked to her for a little while,
learned she is happy, that made me smile.

Entered our class' Mr. Romeo,
Who has played many a cameo
We started teasing him together,
About what all he did to-get-her,

Project reviews to campus interviews,
Nicknames to last bench games,
Cultural rehearsals to love proposals,
Short term crushes to class room blushes.

Everything was fresh in our mind,
Wished life could rewind,
Laughed, played and rejoiced,
Once again we became girls and boys.

Chatting and laughing, we all were in elation,
Till the painfull moment of separation,
It was time to part,
returned with a heavy heart.

Today life is full of commitments,
And too many worries,
but those cherished moments,
Will live forever in our memories !!!!!!

IF
By Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you
are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
but make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
or being hated, don't give way to hating,
and yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream-and not make dreams your master,
if you can think-and not make thoughts your aim;
if you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
and treat those two impostors just the same;
if you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
and stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
and risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
and lose, and start again at your beginnings
and never breathe a word about your loss;
if you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
to serve your turn long after they are gone,
and so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
or walk with kings-nor lose the common touch,
if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
if all men count with you, but none too much,
if you can fill the unforgiving minute
with sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And-which is more-you'll be a Man, my son!

ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE

If there was ever a time to dare,
to make a difference,
to embark on something worth doing,
IT IS NOW.
Not for any grand cause, necessarily...
but for something that tugs at your heart,
something that's your inspiration,
something that's your dream.

You owe it to yourself
to make your days here count.
HAVE FUN.
DIG DEEP.
STRETCH.
DREAM BIG.

Know, though, that things worth doing
seldom come easy.
There will be good days.
And there will be bad days.
There will be times when you want to turn around,
pack it up, and call it quits.
Those times tell you
that you are pushing yourself,
that you are not afraid to learn by trying.

PERSIST.
Because with an idea,
determination, and the right tools,
you can do great things.
Let your instincts, your intellect,
and your heart, guide you.

TRUST.
Believe in the incredible power of the human mind.
Of doing something that makes a difference.
Of working hard.
Of laughing and hoping.
Of lazy afternoons.
Of lasting friends.
Of all the things that will cross your path this year.

The start of something new
brings the hope of something great,
ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.

Be A Possibilitarian

Nine people were discussing a business problem. The challenge they were
facing was not there fault; it was circumstances beyond their control
that
resulted in this problem. The problem was identified, and they were
discussing what they were going to do about it. "What will we do," asked
one
of them. One person immediately said, "There is nothing we can do." That
response was unacceptable to the rest of the group and acted as a spark
of
action. "Yes, there is something we can do!" replied two of them in
unison.
It was at that point that their minds started to work coming up with
solutions.

We are all faced with challenges at some point in our life, challenges
that
we did not create. Challenges that happened beyond our control. The
difference is how we respond to these challenges. You can adopt the
attitude
there is nothing you can do, or you can see the challenge as your call
to
action.

As Norman Vincent Peale said,
"Become a 'possibilitarian'.
No matter how dark things seem to be or actually are,
raise your sights and see the possibilities-
Always see them, for they are always there."

What Counts

It isn't the money you're making, it isn't the clothes you wear,
And it isn't the skill of your good right hand which makes folks really
care.
It's the smile on your face and the light of your eye and the burdens
that
you bear.

Most any old man can tell you, most any old man at all,
Who has lived through all sorts of weather, winter and summer and fall,
That riches and fame are shadows that dance on the garden wall.

It's how do you live and neighbor, how do you work and play,
It's how do you say "good morning" to the people along the way,
And it's how do you face your troubles whenever your skies are gray.

It's you, from the dawn to nighttime; you when the day is fair,
You when the storm is raging - how do you face despair?
It is you that the world discovers, whatever the clothes you wear.

You to the end of the journey, kindly and brave and true,
The best and the worst of you gleaming in all that you say and do,
And the ting that counts isn't money, or glory, or power, but YOU!

AWAKENING...
By John McLeod

Awakening, dawn's chorus
Welcoming,
The day new, untouched
Waiting to be filled....

And will we paint a rainbow
With all its promise
Or dull the canvas
Sadly seen?

Each day brings its own colours
To be chosen, mixed,
Pigments of joy,
Happy moments,
Smiles and laughter....

And which will you choose?
For 'Life' is choice,
We are all painters
In our own way,
All needing to create
Something of worth,
Of lasting beauty,
Marking our journey....

Footprints in the sand....

The sky today is azure,
The sun warm and golden
A filigree of light and shadow-play
Through the gently swaying trees.

I clean my brushes,
Choose my palette
Of vibrant, living colours,
And begin to fill
Today's blank canvas
